This is the cutest little fig ever!!

A couple weeks ago, I received some cuttings of Normans Yellow from Fatnsassytexan.  I dutifully put them all in trenches in the shade under the citrus in the fig cutting nursery.

We had heavy rain over the last two days, and yesterday I noticed this tiny leaf emerging with little figgy ridges and a strong stem.  Here it is today.

 

And here it is in relation to a sprig of grass for size reference.

     

Thank you Tim!  Today it will get it's own chicken wire cage to protect it from rabbits.  Others may grow too.  I buried all the cuttings you sent.

 It really is cute!  IDK why fig trees have personalities to me and this baby makes me smile.

I know.  It's just adorable.  JD just went down to put a gopher wire cage around it.. like 12" in diameter to protect it from rabbits.  They seem to love little baby figs, although I doubt they would consider this worth their trouble.  It is tiny.  They did get my baby Native D'Argentile, but that little thing came up big strong, and now has 6 leaves!!  It towers over this little one.

I'll post updates on little Norman now and then.  I love this fig.  Norman was my dad's first name.  What's not to like?

Suzi, if you care about that tiny fig tree, cover it immediately; or else, you will live to regret it. Rabbits will beat you to it if you don't. They have just devoured a tiny fig tree (Conadria) of mine. I left it uncovered because I never thought they would touch it and boy, was I wrong! Lesson learned, but my Conadria is all gone.

Otmani, The baby has protection now.  It's got a nice gopher wire cage around it.  Nothing can touch it, and it's in a planter surrounded by concrete, and gophers are too lazy to dig under the driveway for nothing.

Your Conradia might come back.  if the cutting has roots, the only damage the rabbit did was to prune it.  It will grow back.  I was devestated when rabbits munched my baby Native D'Argentile, but it's back big time.  This one is so tiny, I doubt any self respecting rabbit would want to eat the dirt that would come along with it in the bite, but it's protected. 

It's in shade until around 3 PM.  Then it gets some sun.  Seems happy for now.  I have no idea if it even has roots.  But it's the first shoot to show of 5 cuttings I buried in little trenches.  Some of those cuttings had girth, so they will be slower to show, but I'm pretty sure I'll get at least one of Normans Yellow out of it, and since I adore this baby I hope this is the one that survives!

Rabbits are so vicious, but glad you have the baby all covered. As for my Conadria, I am hoping it would come back soon.

Otmani, how are you protecting the shoots?  We put a 12" diameter x 18" high fence around each bunch of cuttings, so when they sprout, they have protection.  Little Normans Yellow surprised me.  We didn't get the fence up because the cuttings weren't in ground so long, and it seemed like nothing was happening.  We couldn't believe something so tiny could be a fig.  I just knew it wasn't a weed.  Seen too many fig leaves in my life.

I took a full res photo, blew it up, cropped it, looked at it 100%, and only then could I see this is the beginning of a fig tree.  I love it's little leaf ridges and it's strong stem!

Thank you Charlie!  He is a trooper.. acutally, she!  She will be a mama of many figs!  Be sure you post photos of your Normans Yellow when they start to root and leaf out!  Good luck to you!

Wait till it matures ... it will be cute no more.
My N.Y. used to be one (not sure if it is still alive now?) of the most vigorous upright fig trees for me.

gorgi!  You make me laugh!  My first little adorable baby boy went with me and my cousin to the movies as a 2 month old.  I went for sodas and popcorn, and looked at all the teen boys around with their zits, attempts at facial hair, and attitude, and I shook my head.  Is this what's ahead?  Absolutely!  No zits, but attitude and facial hair everywhere!!  He knows it all, and always has, and he is now facing the drama he caused me.. twin daughters and a handsome son.........

I know Normans Yellow baby won't always be adorable, but she will have delicious figs in the future!  I won't post photos of how adorable she is, but I will post photos of how big she is and how tasty her figs are.
