KK, don't remove the figs, instead, remove all but last 2-3 leaves from each branch. |

I agree with Bob. On several levels cutting leaves seems like a bad idea. First, directing energy into ripening figs this late in the season without leaves to replenish energy stores for dormancy may lead to delayed or no breaking dormancy next year. Also, removing leaves can signal the tree to expend energy to put on new growth. The leaves shade the tree so the trunk does not get sun scald on cool but sunny days. They also hide the fruit from predators. |
