Are these French and Spanish varieties the same variety or different?

Well, the names are certainly similar enough to suggest they are.  France and Spain are close enough that it wouldn't be surprising if the varieties migrated and just kept the same [translated] name.

On another note, seeing "coll" throws off my admittedly very rusty Spanish.  I don't think I've ever seen a Spanish word end in a double L.  Is it short of "collar" or something?

Collar de Dama?
Cuello?
Col de dame is French.
Cuello de dama is Spanish.
Neck of the lady is English.

They are the same varieties.  MP lists them as synonyms in his book.

For those with doubts, Col de Dame Blanc and Coll de Dama Blanca, Col de Dame Noir and Coll de Dama Negra are the same variety.
"Col de Dame" is the French name and "Coll de Dama" is the Catalan name, not the Spanish name, because it is a Catalan and Balearic variety.

"Col", "Coll", and "Cuello" are the respectives names in French, Catalan and Spanish.

Don't confound with "Cuello de Dama Blanca" it is a completely different spanish variety:

The next question is "Do you like the Coll de Dama Blanca and Negra?" Some people I have talked to locally say they are "..awesome..." but I have read on some sites that its only "..good.." tasting. What do you think? Do they really taste the same?

IMHO, Coll de Dama is the king of figs. A well ripened Coll de Dama is the best.
Unfortunately, it is a very late fig and it is difficult in my climate to get a well ripened one.
CDD Blanca and Negra are similar.

I really like Col de Dame's berry taste and birds here tend to leave it alone as it doesn't look ripe. Needs a long season and so far is a shy bearer here. But in late October, there are not many ripe figs but it and Black Madeira.
