We have a member here that will not let you pay for cuttings, but he reserves the right to ask for a favor at a later time.

This is how it should be.  You pay nothing for cuttings sent, but you are now obligated to return the favor at another time.  He may never ask for a favor, but if he does, he's first in line!

Capece?

I can not say the name of the Fig GodFather, but he is here, and he may call in his markers.  I'm good with the dude!  You saying you owe him a lot?  Wow!  I don't owe him so much, maybe one favor.

There is nothing wrong with that sort of arrangement. I myself am allover it, I owe some favors, some are owed me, some have been called in on both sides and were all good.

I was joking of course. I never paid for one, cutting here. People have asked me to buy my persimmon and st Gabriel black fig cuttings. And i say lets trade. Love getting somthing in the mail. Well besides bills.

I received a Sicilian air layer this year. Gentleman would not accept any payment. Not even postage. He said I could return the favor some other time. Hmmmm.

You guys are very lucky! Like the old saying goes favor for favor. All the cuttings I have acquired have been for money except for one trade. The Fig GodFather must be an old school fellow!

I defiantly prefer to trade or just give cuttings to someone.... and I don't do a good job of knowing who I have given stuff to, I would not make a good Mob member...more like the Lolly Pop gild.

I have no problem paying for anything I am looking to get, however, I love to trade.  Even if it is a future marker of trade, or something owed either way.  I often give things away and expect nothing in trade, I'm simply happy that someone else has use for it.  I know I have a couple markers owned, and I'm exited for the day to come that I can fill them.

I also like to share with another local enthusiast, to the point that our collections are mirrors of one another.  This ensures that if anything is ever lost, we know that we can get a replacement in the future from the mirror garden.  I sometimes even have duplicates myself on top of sharing to ensure certain cultivars won't be lost.

I'd be happy to deal with the Fig Godfather, especially when he makes me an offer I can't refuse.

Use of keyboard restricts use of hands while communicating.

Speaking of . . . old Italian saying: One hand washes the other.

That's kind of "I'll scratch your back, if you scratch mine" for those of you not quite sympatico.

I think it's great, postage or no postage, and I am always ready to toss in a little bacce. We need more good will in the world.

This is a funny post.  I love the concept of the fig god father!  I don't blame people for wanting postage as shipping gets costly fast but it's nice to see people offering cuttings for just the postage.  After posting about a rough day one member sent me something on my wish list. So nice and what a great way to brighten up someones day.

Most people just like trade in this forum even if they are getting something they may allready have. I like giving somthing that another wants and will enjoy. And it fun when you get somthing in the mail you forgot you were getting. :))

LOL! So I guess my son's nursery window for newly potted figs and the bathroom counter being covered in ziplocs with rooting cuttings isn't so bad after all ;)! No more cuttings I said...

I think down the road I want to be the fig fairy godmother, look at a wish list and make something come true.
