For those that have this variety, can you please tell me if your branches have stripes somewhat similar to Panache?  I have a couple of them and they have stripes but someone from Taiwan was chatting with me on Facebook about one on eBay and I noticed it doesn't have any stripes.

I asked this a while back because of a photo on ebay and everyone who answered said that the bark is striped but it's not as easy to see as on the Panache.

Harvey if you look at the topic that bass has with his tree you will see stripes...

Yes, mine always have stripes, easier to see on youngest branches which is also the case in Panache, but the stripes are so far not as bright as what I often get on Panache.  Still, I've not ever seen a branch where I didn't see the stripes fairly easily.

Harvey, it's my MR on ebay. Not sure how you concluded that it doesn't have any stripes because I did not post any close-up pics of it. I will post a clearer photo tonight, time willing. Fyi, mine came from Bass!

Hi Ryan, okay, I see you're the seller.  I concluded such because I could not see any stripes when I zoomed in.  When moving mine around this morning I saw stripes very easily, thus the question.  Okay?

As a fellow eBay seller, I'm pretty sure you would understand where I'm coming from. If it wasn't for a few caring and loyal customers, I would not have known about your statement.

My Panache, MR, and CdD Rimada all exhibit very similar striping but the fruits are different in shape.

I was speaking with an Thai customer and he brought it up and I looked and had similar concerns.  I didn't even see who the seller was, there was nothing wrong with asking the question.You seem to be super sensitive about something.  Your branches posted above look fine, thanks.  Your plant looks nice.  Since you've had fruit, you might want to post photos of that also (since you asked my advice about selling eBay).  Good luck.

I didn't think I was creating any drama, I asked a simple question.  For some background, another member here once posted a photo of immature fruit of Martinenca Rimada that was not striped but he has since sold cuttings that were clearly striped, so I'm not sure what was going on there.  Another former member received MP cuttings and one did not appear right, so this is a variety I've been watching closely.  Nothing I wrote in my first post should be viewed as controversial!

Are those pics of the mother tree? The node spacing indicates at least one pic shown is not of the tree in the auction...

It is best to be up front about that sort of thing. The question was about the tree for sale after all.

I can zoom in enough to see the tiny lenticels on the eBay pic but no sign of striping. Could you take some pics that can identify the actual plant? Such as the tips or the knobby part.

I will have that by tomorrow. I finish work late tonight and will be dark by the time I get home. Ps, I simply forgot to note that the last 2 pics were of the mother tree.

The striping on the first is very apparent, it should be no problem to step back little bit and show more of the plant along with that same node.

Is that the only striped section? .

p.s. Make sure to take the photo from the same side, the lenticel pattern will match up exactly.

This has been more stressful than my career and I'm in the healthcare field...lol. I'm sport about the whole thing if it is going to help ease people's minds. 

I am actually planning to take a video of some of my in-ground trees tomorrow since a lot of people have been asking about some of my trees and their surprise of how quickly the trees are growing.

Ryan has bought from and was a good buyer.  I've never bought anything from Ryan and nobody has reported anything good or bad to me about Ryan as a seller.  As I said, the tree came up in a discussion I was having with someone else and I thought my question was fairly simple since I've seen a couple of odd things with this variety before.  I did not accuse the seller/Ryan of anything and am a bit surprised by all of this reaction.  I suggest Ryan send me the tree for further review and comparison!

I do not want to get on anybody's bad side but, who do you think you are? As many of you know, my family and I have been blessed with some good auctions on ebay. Yes, we do have some special people in our society, but for the most part, most people would understand that when they have a good thing going it would not be wise to jeopardize long-term success for a quick buck. In other words, why would I want to ruin the potential of making more money in the long-term by making a few bucks now, cheating people and trashing my reputation. It just doesn't hold up to whatever it is I am, really and ultimately, being accused of. I've invested too much money, time, effort, and sacrificed too much family time to ruin a good thing now. And, I honestly have so much more to offer in the future that it would only make sense to maintain my excellent reputation. I have planted way too many fig trees to solely enjoy them for personal consumption. I have sold 2 other MRs on ebay. Both of those listings had 2 photos each (1 of the whole tree and 1 close-up). Noone questioned the authenticity of those 2 trees. Why would I, all of a sudden, have a change of mind and start selling fake ones? Harvey, just a few pointers for you so that you can be more credible in the future. - I know how closely you watch ebay fig auctions just based on my past experiences with you. There is just no way that you could not have known it was me who was selling the MR. Isn't checking who the seller is one of the first things we all look at on ebay? And, according to you, you went to "investigate" it for an overseas client. - Taiwan and Thailand are 2 completely countries. Keep your story consistent. I have accused you of nothing.  I did not "investigate" your tree.  Someone mentioned from Thailand asked me about it late at night, just like now when it's 3am in the morning.  (I've been hunting a big fig-eating rat that seems to love my most treasured fig cuttings!)  Sorry, but I don't really memorize your ID either here or on eBay.  My ID is pretty easy for me to figure out who I am if you really want to know "who I am".

You only seem to be sensing some sort of attack against you and are apparently missing the background I mentioned (i.e., oddities noticed in this variety grown by others).  Maybe when you've been growing figs for a bit longer you will have some sense that weird stuff happens.

I did not offer to buy your tree!  I thought it was pretty clear that when someone was asking me if I was safe to buy your tree that I was joking that you should send it to me for review.  That comment was not being made to you but in response to someone who was asking me a question that I could hardly answer with any sort of authority from here in my chair 3,000 miles away.

Go back and read my comments again and you will find I didn't accuse you of anything.  Your reaction seems to be based on some perception rather than what I've said.

Harvey, having extensive knowledge in Psychology has afforded me to understand people's intentions with their words and actions.

A couple of months or so ago, Bass emailed me asking about my Galicia Negra. He mentioned that there were several customers/fellow fig growers who had approached him to verify the authenticity of my tree, and also that he and those others were surprised that I had had as many air layers as I did for having a young tree. And with being a Psychology geek and all, I have a strong confirmation that you are one of those people. 

Correct me and I apologize if I'm wrong but your whole intention is to discredit me. This is based on past knowledge gathered from me directly speaking with you and identifying your behavior patterns, and and others' impression of you. I have observed that you have a tendency to quickly judge others without any solid evidence and it is something that I have, unfortunately, associated with you. Sorry, it's probably not something you like to hear but it's my observation. 

So, putting Bass' email, my observations of you, others' impression of you, with your intention for this thread, I am 99.98% sure of my conclusion. 

As a quick and obvious example, notice how you added an unnecessary and cheap comment on the 7th line of your last post. Again, as a Psychology geek, a comment like that registers as someone who feels insecure and feels the need to be right in order to feel better about himself/herself even if they do not have concrete evidence to support their position.

Today, I intend to shoot a video of it just to prove to you, Bass, and whoever else cares to know that you don't need a gigantic tree to produce lots of air layers. *Bass, I am not calling you out, just so you know. I am excited, actually, to show you how the trees you sent me are doing.

Also, do you not remember that I also bought 2 young Galicia Negras from you? One of them died, remember? And your reply after I mentioned it to you was something like, "I knew I should not have sent out a young tree with an unestablished root system." I am not mentioning that to call you out because had I really wanted you to replace it, I would've asked you there and then. 

I let it go at post #16. I am again ready to let it go now, Harvey. My wife needs help with the kids and I've been spending too much time defending myself to a non-authority (no offense intended, but it's simply the truth).

Ryan, since this is bothering you quite a bit, it seems, I looked at these photos and I think it looks okay.  It looks like your branches are immature and probably just not developing stripes yet but that branch on the bottom does show the striping and it's just not that obvious.  I looked at your two other auctions for Martinenca Rimada and the striping in those is very easy to see.  I wonder if it's because the time of year when they grew or what the cause might be (i.e., current plant branches look like they might not be lignified).

I have a few of these and just haven't observed that in mine or in photos of others.  That is all.  Your stripes are there, they just aren't as obvious as your others or the ones I have.  At this point I'm growing for planting, not selling, so no competition from me.

I do apologize if I misunderstood your comment about having the tree sent to you for review.

For what it's worth, I have traded with Ryan and had an excellent experience.  The plant I received, by all appearances, is true to type.  I already have a Martinenca Rimada but if I wanted one, and didn't mind spending the cash, I would have no second thoughts about bidding on the one Ryan is selling.  On the other hand, I don't think Harvey's question was unreasonable or that he had any bad intent by asking it.  I am actually very interested in this issue as the striping on my MR is also rather subtle so it is interesting to compare to what others are observing.  I don't have a problem with forum members selling figs (and have dabbled a bit with ebay sales myself) but it does seem that things become more complicated, and the stakes higher, when there is money involved.  Anyway, glad the two of you worked things out.
