I thought I would show some pictures of my cuttings at 3 1/2 months they are really doing super this year, I started them in coir and repotted them in pro-mix and have been using MaxiGro 10-5-14  that was recommended to me by my local hydroponics store , started them at 1/4 strength and worked them up to 1/2 strength seems like a great fertilizer everything is very green and lush, the only problem is the shelf is a little too small , once you take them down to water them it's like a jigsaw puzzle getting them back on the shelf, time to order another unit.

Dave the look great. If I may ask? How often do you water at that size and do you use the MaxiGro every time?

Dave, wow! Those plants are looking swell! Awesome job! I've been having a lot of trouble with my cuttings this year, but seeing how much progress they've made with your method gives me hope.

Congratulations Dave, those are some very happy looking fig starters.   Thanks for the fertilizer tip also!   I’ve got to look into that MaxiGro 10-5-14, next trip by the hydroponics store.

Wow, those figs look like they're on steroids. I am going to have to use grow lights next year, that looks like a nice setup.

Very impressive.  Did you lose many when you transitioned from coir to Pro-mix?  That seems to be my downfall.

Beautiful, Dave! The General Hydroponics products are fantastic, IMO. I use their BioThrive on mine. A local company, just down the road here in Sebastopol.

I fertilize them every other watering, I still have them at 1/2 strength  the Pro-mix in one gallon pot seems to dry out about every 4 to 5 days, " really dries out" seems to be working well so far

It's mind blowing going into one of those hydroponic stores the choices are endless, not like the old days where there were 3 different fertilizers to choose from.

The guy had a little experiment going on in the store 2 different flats of sunflower seeds, one in straight coir "with no fertilizer" and the other using coir the MaxiGro and the difference was night and day

Yes it is dry, he recommended starting at 1/4 strength and working your way up to full strength

Bill  I started using small cups for rooting I believe they are around 8 oz I like them better than the large cups once the roots fill up the cup they slide right out with out disturbing the roots that sometimes happen with a large cup and I sit them gently into the 1 gallon pot without disturbing the roots and they continue growing like nothing happened

Bill It took right around 4 to 5 weeks to start seeing roots and one other thing I forgot to mention I use clonex rooting gel on all my cuttings

Quick questions, Dave. Did you start in cups of coir and pot up to 1 gallons or once they showed promise in the coir (ie. buried horizontally in a bag or container), you immediately placed them in 1 gallons? If you automatically placed them in 1 gallons, how long did it take you to start watering? It's been almost two months for me in 1 gallon pots and I still haven't watered.

I started them in a small cup in the coir and transferred them to the 1 gallon pots , I started watering immediately Pro-mix dries out every 4 to 5 days if yours is staying wet for 2 months you might have a problem with root rot , 2 months is way too long to stay wet , might be time to change your soil mix

My plants seem to be doing fine. After seeing initials, I placed them all into 1 gallon pots from the get go. There wasn't much moisture to begin with.. just a large pot for a small cutting :) Thanks!

Alma, you might want to drape gallon zip bags over the tops of your cuttings/pots to help keep the humidity levels very high around the cuttings. Ive found this really encourages growth. Good luck.

Wow, great looking cuttings for 3-1/2 months!!

My 3-1/2 month cuttings have gone outdoors.  I've got some rooting, but they'll go outside soon, too.
