Good job! I tried that once on a grapevine, but it failed. Gonna try again on an avocado soon. Looks like this is a big success! |

I have a 4-5 year unknown that has never had one fig. Been waiting for the fruit for ID here, but this may never happen. It has beautiful leaves and is vigorous. Can I take a bud from a cutting I'm rooting and see if that will take on this unknown rootstock? The tree is in partial shade. |

Is it just an experiment or has any practical value, like to improve a quality of the tree? |

Hey Gordenia. It is a proven method of creating a tree that produces more than one varieties of the same fruit on a hardy rootstock! You find a tree that grows well,is resistant to drought or too much rain ,diseases etc and you graft the varieties of the same fruit or same family of that fruit( peach, plumb, apricot, almont, nectarine belong to the same group and are compatible to graft together)that you like or match your requirements on it! That is the improvement! Hope I could help! |
