This isn't the "wuhan"/"zhangzhi" black fig I found on a forum search.

I got one too. I don't know what it is. But what do I have to lose right? I lost all of my little trees when I deployed so it will be my only one.

I am curious to what it is.

Ya think? I wouldn't be surprised if it is something common like that.

I've got a TC Magnolia, so in a year or two I ought to be able to compare side-by-side.

edited to add -- on the other hand, the figs in the ebay pic aren't as dark as the figs in pics I've seen of Magnolia....

I agree with Dave.  Every piece of evidence: leaves, size, hardiness, fruit size color and shape, etc matches a Brunswick. 

Without a doubt the figs shown are Magnolia/Brunswick.  I have never seen any figs off a Magnolia/Brunswick that were any darker than those shown.  It is not a bad fig in certain areas but can be watery, splitting, tasteless fig in some of the cooler, shorter season, wetter areas. 

Good topic, I noticed it too, but had no clue what it could have been.

Wuhan is a dark fig with yellow interior and has 2 different leaves 

     

I'm guessing that this fig won't do well in the Pacific North West then. That's a bummer.

Jarret I have a Brunswick and the figs were excellent last year The tree really produces I did have some spit apart after it rained I think the simplest thing is to cover the pot with plastic so you can control the watering  the tree is well worth  it

If you look at the various ebay auctions for Magnolia, you'll see a lot of dark to darkish fig pics.

Obviously, ebay is not a terribly reliable source. But if you look at the varietal pages here at F4F, you'll also see that many of the fig pics under Brunswick (there are few pics under Magnolia) are also at least somewhat darker than those shown on the auction in question:

OTOH, a lot of those differences can easily be due to culture/climate/conditions, and I agree that the various characteristics match up pretty well with Magnolia/Brunswick. I've marked my fig list to reflect that likelihood.

Nice photos and healthy plant! How do you like the taste?
Is it a late fig?

Greenfig The tree is still very young for what I can remember from last year it was very bland tasting it produced the figs around mid to late summer 

thanks for this post. I was wondering the same thing.

My little plant came this afternoon. It is healthy and looks ready to take off, and is fairly represented by the photos in the auction. Oddly enough, though, it came with a cultivation sheet for **Hardy Chicago**. Heh.

As I mentioned before, I have a TC Magnolia to compare this with as it grows. I'll try to report back in a year or so.
