I call it the Berkeley Tree since its on Berkeley street. When I first saw it 27 years ago, the trunk was already 8-10 inches in diameter. I managed to get cuttings last fall and I have a few figlettes growing now. I have not been able to find anyone around to ask about the tree since its near an apartment complex but, i will keep trying.

Today i went to check for ripe figs. I found a few figs that were close to ready but the one that was most ripe, the birds had already started pecking it, of course. I have a few pictures of the leaves somewhere & i will post when I find them.

My daughter described it as having a papaya taste with a hint of cinamon. My husband agreed. Although it could have used another day or two, it was very good! Small yellowish fig with a reddish inside. The tree bark is sort of silver looking. It was great to taste a fresh and a very good fig...finally!

Hey, Igor!! Thanks! Yes, my daughter surprised me with her description. My husband, who does not eat figs much at all but has great discernment when it comes to taste, agreed with her description. I am happy to taste it. I must say, it was very, very good!

Hi, Shailesh:  I do have two cuttings going now.  These were very difficult to root.  Out of 7 or 8 cuttings, only two are now growing.  I plan to go back in the fall to get a few lignified wood cuttings.  I will keep trying to find a person who can give me details about this tree.  It's in an odd place on the side of an apartment building.  It is an "orchard" like piece of land but up until last year, it had been let go and no one took any interest.  Now it looks like someone is watering the are.  Every time I go there and drive by I don't see anyone around to ask about the tree/lot/space.

Meg, you sound like you're in my neck of the woods!  Are you in N. San Diego county by chance?  We have so so many random fig trees growing everywhere here in my city and in the general county land.

Hi, Patty: No, I live near Disneyland but yes, we have many, many fig trees everywhere. Many are deliberately planted.

Hermansur, is that right?!! Thx for identifying it! I have waited many years for this!! I only tasted the fruit a few times before and then totally forgot about the tree until I found this forum and my passion for figs was re-ignited. Tasting this recent fruit again was really wonderful after so many years. Can you point out some of the distonct characteristics of the Yellow Niches that you see clearly in my sample? Gosh Im so happy to know this!!!
