Dark Portuguese cultivar as it came to me not sure if same as PD but its taste profile was of a mild Hardy Chicago.
Gave to neighbor who left it out in yard over winter and it went kaput.
Productive plant when in my yard.

Meh thats actually for you "One for Pete" , i been reading your threads and everyone elses thread i don't miss a thing here.
You , Shah, and a few others i see say there leaning as well or like dark figs better .

Little by little your leaning to the dark side as you have raved about how good VdB is and with good reason.
Pete Vdb and others do not take 3 years or more to taste good but some will slowly realize there wasting there time
and hard earned money on them white figs.
Come to the dark side .  ; )

All in fun.

Shah types in part -Even Black Madeira, there are a number of substitutes that should be as good, and it's not an uncommon fig as these things go, and there will be opportunities to get BM at reasonable prices or free.

Hmm i have eaten lots of different types and have yet to find that substutute for Madeira But thats on my personal palate. But your right there will be plenty of opportunities to get one and the price will be the same as say Celeste plant in future.

Dennis thanks for showing the pictures.
As for your pictures i notice that when mouse is held over them there is no file name for some reason.

I also use windows its an old 98 windows edition and there fine after i resize them for the forum , even others can click on the thumbnail and they enlarge and when one holds there mouse over them a file name shows identifying what is being seen.
Yours do not do this .

Example is these twins with water bottles that were cut short even shorter.

While i never rooted stick that large i think it should be ok try it in mean time you can
airlayer another large branch next season in 1 or 2 gallon container with a cut out in it with clear tape on inside and out to see the root development.

Have both cultivars.
Black Maderia on personal palate i like more .
Ronde fast growing similar to Mission.
Both good producers of the figs, Ronde ripens earlier.

Here is the younger Madeira June 22 this season before going into bigger container then 2 months later in bigger container.
Third picture of the pair of Black Madeira's.

Fespo if your heavy into canning tomatoes.
Made in Italy by Imperia its a Electric Spremy machine takes whole tomato's and seeds and skin go one way and the good stuff the other.
It works great had mine for lot of years.

Then i fill up sterilized mason jars and into canning pot for 20 minute or so boil last long time as you already know.
Teaspoon of lemon juice in jar makes the color stay nice.

Nice Frank.
brings back fond memories of my parents and Anthony as well each time i make the Sunday gravy .
Dad learned to count the meatballs as he fried them as Anthony and i used to sneak a few.
One of my fondest memories was when he brought home some horse meat night before from club unknown to us and made bracioles making horse sounds as we ate them that afternoon was a rare site to see him in that mood.
He used to bring home so many figs from the club also and other things i truly miss those times.
Also visits to grandma's house for it was her that was my biggest influence to the world of figs at a very young age .
Thanks for sharing you Sunday morning here on forum.

I am growing "Black Mission" for the first time. The tree is at bearing age, is approx. 5 ft tall, and growing in a 5-gallon bucket.  Last year the tree had about a dozen hard, but reddish-purple figs, that never ripened by the time cool weather hit NYC.  This year, I have only a few main-crop figs, but they seem to be under-developed compared to the rest of my fig varieties.  I have my doubts as to whether or not I will see ripe figs on this tree by the end of my short season.  I have about another 3-4 weeks, and then, it's over.

Now, I have just read that "Black Mission" can be considered a late-season fig, and that it has to cook in the heat of an extended season to ripen figs. This season has been unusual in that the spring was very cold and all my trees were very late to leaf out, this "Black Mission" included.  Could this be a reason for the delayed development of the figs?  The developing figs seem to have a vivid, rose-violet pigment on the top side of the fig that's exposed to the sunlight.  The leaf-stems also have the same rosey-pink coloration.  Leaves are thin, and the tree is asymptomatic of FMV/D.

So...has anyone in Zone-7b ripened "Black Mission" consistently?  All my questions may be premature and moot.  This is only the first year, and the tree may be great in subsequent seasons, but still, I'd like to know what's ahead, if predictions can be ventured.

Thanks for any suggestions and cultural information that you can pass along.  My other varieties are starting to ripen, so "Black Mission", growing with the same cultural and growing conditions, should be ripening some figs also....I hope, soon.  By the way, "Black Mission" fig trees, are sold in local Garden Centers in this area.  I've even seen them being sold at the local Home Depot.  Is this an indication that this fig variety is matched to my climate, and is it a to be considered a 'late-ripener'?

Frank

Frank the Mission plant i had was Monrovia's strain out of their growing field in California .
Tremendous producer of figs that started to ripen in container here in yard toward end of August thru second week of September.
From my experience with this type it was aggressive grower along with its root system 5 gallon bucket seems small for this type of cultivar unless root pruned quite often as it can fill with roots a 5g bucket if properly fertilized and watered in a mere season.
Got rid of it as the figs were average to me and i dont want average or good figs.
It made some beautiful figs otherwise.

Excuse me Greenfig.

Thanks Celt , have a decent amount of pre and post war Loco''s some dating to the teens and some rare ones in original condition but the kids now in college got bored of them even with a layout with switches and interactive things on it , even made my own trees.
The engines eventually will come of the display shelf get wrapped and go in boxes for storage.

Lebmark as an ebay seller and buyer since 1996 when we had only dial up connection things were difficult and i lost many a Lionel model train auctions.

On another note one may think a particular person example #1 is driving up the bid when they click on the bids and see same name #1 next to a bid in a row multiple times but what actually is happening is they put in a maximum high bid (what their willing to pay) and ebay system keeps kicking up #1 bid and showing it perhaps multiple until #2 comes in and finally puts in a bid that exceeds #1 highest bid that was input originally.
Then you will see that persons scrambled screen #2 name right above it and not until then.
Course #1 can see that as well on within the ebay listing and thru automated notification via email also - <your high bid has been exceeded> and go back to auction and adjust there bid if they choose too.
