Always find these video's fascinating in how they capture the wasp and their work in detail
in the confined space like the one video thats was shot in Africa showing wasp
pollinating the figs .

Mike most are different in fert department.
What has worked for many years for me is 24.8.16 .
Knowing when to stop and knowing pruning technique for the trees goes a long way.
Its different in different climates im sure as some seasons are shorter than others.

I do know the Illinois everbearing tree will get big as iv'e seen some here with tremendous amount of them on the sidewalk in front of it very messy and staining.

Hmm wonder if they can survive in dormant fig plants when temps go into the teens .
Never had this problem here and keeping twigs crossed never will.

For our plants its the ole fashion root prune yes its a pain a real pain.
The way i see it the heart of the rootball does not get root pruned with the airpots and those
types only the outer roots.

Good for you, after digging it out you should cut some of the canopy for the less roots it will have
at its new like when a fig tree is root pruned well otherwise it can drop much of its new crop.

This i have experienced.

Sure could do that you may rip just a few roots with tape on outside but it won't hurt anything .
With that size container i would thing it can support the plant well.

Have used regular size water bottle for airlayers and at worst lost leaves with the bigger airlayers but never the plant.
Best of luck .

gets to be too much work and or to many to eat , too many similar tasting to each other etc etc.

I'll be layering GkY shortly (also in demand from UK forum members, etc), thus bringing it back down to a much more manageable size in terms of 'volume'. The temptation then will be to leave it in the pot instead of grounding it if that means a better chance of ripe fruit. Is that what you would do?

Was referring to hot climate in the States i know nothing about London's climate.  ; )

I usually save the seeds from previous season and or after tilling in everything next season
i get the volunteers that come up.

Last year after i said never again i bought some Roma plum tomatoes on sale at HD.
Yes they were not Roma plum tomatoes.
Lesson learned from this poster.

This good thread for many newer members !
I personally doucment with dated pictures when the figs first come out and have good idea
when they will ripen at about half way point they do not get fertilizer anymore .
But
what i also have been doing once figs are spent they get 1 shot of fertilizer.
Yes im the oddball
But we are all different.

Come to the Darkside.   ; )

Costas with those containers you can cut out in middle a section and tape with clear packing tape for your window.
I did this with a 1 or 2 gallon container several years back and can see roots then.
