Here is a video showing the size of the figs developing on a number of varieties in the last week of August.

I seem to have a Longue D'Aout that has a leaf pattern that does not look like other Longue D'Aouts out there but I have found that even two fig trees of the same variety can look completely different.  Time will tell what variety this is but it still produces a nice fig.

I think you are right.  They are on last years growth.  It's so late in August I wasn't even thinking about brebas or main crop, I just wanted a fig.  I was thinking that also in the back of my mind that I thought this fig was longer.  Hopefully as this variety matures I will have time to have a main crop fig.

This fig tree was stuck in neutral up until July 17th with no new growth except for the two figs developing.  I decided to remove the figs to spur new growth.  A little over a month later the tree made good progress.  I wonder how much energy goes into producing a fig?

That's a good size tree.  I think I might try putting one of my Hardy Chicago trees in the ground to see if it can survive this winter.  I probably should have done that in the spring though.  Any pictures of it wrapped up?

I started this variety from cuttings last year and noticed this ripening fig so I brought it into the lean to for protection.  It needs to be up potted but the fig was figgy and jammy but I need more to be able to describe it.

I'd put one end of the garden hose in the hole and repeatedly fill it up.  If they are yellow jackets something was probably digging for the yellow jacket larvae in the nest.

I noticed this fig while watering.  It's a Trojano fig.  There are probably a dozen on this tree so I had a sample of what to expect in a couple of weeks.

I placed some leftover LSU Gold cuttings into moss late June and just put them into a soil mix.  I'm wondering if there is enough time to get them established.  I guess I can just keep them inside going into the fall.

I built a lean to with polycarbonate panels from Griffin Greenhouse and nursery supplies.  Their catalog shows they have a place in Morgantown PA if that helps.

Here are some of the videos I posted on youtube showing the construction.

I decided to remove the air layer after finding that the root mass was dried out.  I soaked it for a couple of hours before potting it up.  I kept it in the cellar overnight and it seems to be taking the transition OK

This fig has been a slow grower for me and it did not help when I gave it a sunburn.  I just up potted it and moved it back into the greenhouse thinking the heat will do it good and trying to keep the figs away from a chipmunk problem I working on solving.  Unlike the panachee it eventually ripens to a dark fig.

It was some leftover mix I used for rooting cuttings that has a lot of pine bark in it.  I should of let it soak over night it was a little dry.  It works great for cuttings and provides good drainage.  I hope it takes.  The next day the leaves looked like nothing had been cut.  No wilting at all.

I started some cuttings in February and finally transferred them to larger pots.  I purchased some Vasilika Sika and also received some bonus varieties.  The mostly pine bark mix really works for me and I no longer use an intermediate  perlite and vermiculite mix before transferring to soil.  I go directly to the bark mix after root initials appear and leave them in the bark mix until the roots are mature and have turned color.  There is very little breakage as compared to transferring from perlite and vermiculite.

Great drainage and humid air pockets which the roots love until they mature.

It's called Agway mulch and it's a pretty good uniform size of about a 1/2 inch.  I use to sift HD pine nuggets to get this size material.

I forgot to cover it with mulch when the temps went down into the 20's last night but I wonder if the top when exposed to light it has the potential to create cells that photosynthesize.

Can a large detached fig tree root produce a sucker on its own?  I was just wondering when I found one of my trees had grown through the pot and into the soil.

Definitely the best although a nice dehydrated Ischia Black on the tree is extremely rich, sweet and fig like too. I haven't decided if the Black Madeira dehydrate well or are at their best fresh.

Surprisingly the Black Madeira was the most productive variety this year. Even out doing the Negronne which I think suffered root damage during the winter and was slow to wake up this spring.  The extra heat from being in the lean to probably helped.

I'm building a similar foundation now and since there is dirt on both sides I was wondering if I need to waterproof the blocks with that black tar and whether you leave the blocks hollow to be able to evaporate any moisture in the blocks.  I think I will order gravel to fill in on both sides of the blocks too for drainage.  It look like you have a sandy soil.

I recently shipped a fig tree to California and was a little apprehensive about it.  I received a call this morning that an inspection dog ID'd my package for inspection and they wanted permission to look it over.  The guy was very polite and professional.  Because it was shipped with soil there would be concerns about Japanese beetles and what ever other restrictions might be in place from MA.  More than likely it will be shipped back to me and not destroyed so it is not a total loss.  Lesson learned.  California's agriculture business is a multi billion dollar industry that provides produce to the world and probably provides jobs to millions of people either growing, distributing, or selling what is grown in California.  So if you ship to California there is a good possibility it will be tagged for inspection and not make it if it does not have the proper paperwork.  I was told that it might be different if it was shipped bare root although the conversation did not make that completely clear.  Hopefully I will receive the plant back.

I would never have thought that I would have the most figs of any variety from my Black Maderia's this year.  My Negronne is playing catch up and it looks like it might end up leaving most of it's figs unripe on the tree.  But whose complaining.  I'll just drown my sorrows in Black Madeiras.

I had this lone fig on what I think is a Golden Celeste.  Last year I remember I had two trees marked Golden Celeste but one was more of a bronze color.  I'm pretty sure I did not mess up the labels on those and the data base shows fig interiors that can vary from light to dark.  One of the leaf patterns looks right.  Now that I look at the pictures, it looks like it was starting to turn a bronze color in some areas.
