This is a leaf off my chicago hardy fig, is this sun damage or is it a disease? We have been getting alot of 90 degree days here is northern illinois. I just want to make sure that it is sun damage and not a disease.

Any help with be much appreciated

Any recommendations on how to train this Petite Negra? I received it this way and although I like the way it looks, I don't know if I want it to grow horizontally like it is. Suggestions.

Thanks
Mike

Thanks Vince and Grant for the information! I appreciate all the help I can get! and Herman2 the Kadota was one of the trees I found at a local nursery. I will hopefully be moving to warmer climates in the future so if it doesn't ripen here then hopefully it will ripen in that zone!

Thanks,
Mike

Good evening,

I have a question about pinching. I've done some research on this forum and the web regarding pinching. Attached are photos of my Kadota and each branch only has about 4 leaves attached to them with about 15 or so figs total on the tree. Would pinching each branch encourage the tree to spread more leaves? I know that it would encourage the figs it has to ripen and produce more. I also read on this forum that you should pinch when there is about six leaves on the branch. What exactly should I do? Would it be bad to pinch with only four leaves on a branch? And how exactly would I encourage more leaf growth? Especially with the branches that are bare. (if there is anything I can do of course).

Thanks,
Mike

So i am new to fig trees (one year of experience so far) I've also looked into getting cuttings from UC Davis, but there is not much information outside forums or their website. Exactly how much does this cost (whether it be for costs from UC Davis or from creating a Fedex account)?? I've read that it can cost 50 dollars for cuttings then others say its free. What is the real answer?

Thanks,
Mike

Diesler I live in Chicago, Z-5 as well and I was wondering at what temps do you usually leave your fig trees outside? and what temps do you look for bringing them inside? Like whats the minimum temp to keep them outside?

Thanks,
Mike

Hello everyone, I had a question about my fig tree that  I received last year. How do I encourage it to grow stems from the trunk?? Its in the condition that I received it in but will only at the top of the trunk. The variety is really unknown to me, the grower I bought it from calls it a kalamata fig tree but there is absolutely no information out there on the web that I could find on that certain variety. I've done some research on it. would pinching the top encourage stems to grow?? I have no clue as where to start. Any help would be appreciated! thanks!
