I shoot for about 1/2 way. Not necessarily becaus the plants need it, but more so the plants stay stable. And don't blow over. All they really need to do is make contact with soil

I met him in July. We had a very nice discussion. I had to invite myself over because he rarely answers email. He had tons of potted trees in his back yard. Very nice man. I don't want to speculate about it, but it looked like a lot of work for his age and the shape he was in. I hope he's ok.

Subject: Is Danny's Delight and Desert King the same Fig? Replies: 16

A comparison of what I had that was labelled Desert King.    Not worth growing.  The Lattarula came from Edible Landscaping and is a really good Breba fig.    Yes, I did get some main crop figs to ripen, but they were terrible.  Normally, they fall off.

In January and February it's not uncommon for my garage to get down to 22 F when it's below 0 degrees outside. I've gone out to check on them and the root ball is frozen. It stays frozen for 4-6 weeks. Never lost a plant in the garage. I've lost more figs stored in the basement because I forgot to water them.

Agree with Mario and Devlsgro

In my opinion, if you're in zone 5/6, All figs are pretty similar in hardiness. In zone 5 you're going to need to bring them in or protect them somehow. I'm in zone 6 and do this also. I don't chance losing my plants to the cold.

Des Roig Manyo is a Spanish variety from Monserrat Pons. His book has recently been translated to English. Look for it soon on Amazon

1. I258/Genovese Nero. Tied for first place
2. Preto (similar to Black tuscan and Black Madeira)
3. Maltese Beauty (some people disagree, but this one has been good for me)
4. Nero600 (best of the negronne types IMO)
5. Antonelli (similar to a Hardy Chicago)
6. Lattarulla (only on the list because of its prolific, large, tasty early Breba crop.)

Because of my location, everything is grown in containers and moved in the garage for the winter

I have an Unknown called Antonelli. And Lattarulla from Edible Landscaping. This pretty much extends the season from July to October.

From a flavor and seasonal aspect, these cover it.

I'm asking $30 plus $7.50 for shipping and handling.  Private message me if interested for Paypal info.  When they are spoken for, I will post it as so.

Please include your shipping address in the private message.  You must be in the continental US.

When possible I try to supply 2 cuttings although I can’t guarantee that on each variety on some.  Each cutting should have at least three nodes.  With that said there are a bunch of cuttings in this batch.

I make no claims that my figs are FMV free.  I haven't had one yet (except my Maltese Beauty) that doesn't show signs of it in some way shape or form.

Upon receipt I recommend re-cleaning the cuttings and separating the varieties into their own bag with moist moss.

Thanks for your contribution and good luck rooting these.  It’s a good assortment that should give you a lot of pleasure growing and tasting.

I’m including at least 3 extra varieties that will be surprises.  I'll Combine shipping with Bundle 3 & 2.  I've done this with a few others and just barely been able to squeeze them into 1 shipping bag.

Thanks.   Dan

I don't worry too much about that. The moss falls off. What doesn't just becomes part of what gets planted.

I keep a close eye on the cuttings too and plant them before they get too long.

Bumping for a few people that asked how I root.   I like the Bagged method the best.   I wrap the figs in moist moss, then newspaper or brown paper bags.   Then into a ziplock.   I put them somewhere warm (not too warm, I cooked some cuttings last year by putting them too close to the heat register.)  It takes about 3-4 weeks.    Some as soon as 2 weeks.    Then I pot them up.    I only pot the ones that have roots.   This stops me from growing fungus gnat s the soil surface of figs that aren't growing.

I like to high quality Moss from Orchid growers that is lighter in color.   Its cleaner, but more expensive.    I also use the Mosser Lee moss at Home Depot or Lowes.   Cheaper and has some grass and twigs, but works as well.    I think that the moss and newspaper work well and help keep mold down.   Not really sure why.

I still use the bin once I pot them up.   Cracking the lid as needed to control humidity works for me.    This is the cheapest method and I get 80-90% rooting.   The 10-20% that don't root are mainly because there was some damage on the cutting to begin with.

Once the are rooted, I like to use a mix that has really good porosity.   I usually like to add another 25% pearlite too.    I avoid mixes that have compost.   Peat based mixes work best.   I find that the Compost can be a source of insect populations.

For pots I us Steuwe & Sons Tree pots.    3"x3"x10" I believe.

Good Luck..

I'm asking $30 plus $7.50 for shipping and handling (this is a lot of work ;).  Please don’t ask to add or subtract varieties.   I do this in an assembly line and I make mistakes when I have to customize the packs.  Hope you understand. Private message me if interested for Paypal info.  When they are spoken for, I will post it as so.

Please include your shipping address in the private message.  You must be in the continental US.
