Haven't tried many but

Panache --- Very Sweet, jammy, skin is a little tough but I like the chewy-ness???, produced from a young age
Negronne--- Nice flavor, is a little tangy berry-like, dehydrates well on the tree and can become super sweet, produces none stop all season, even now it is producing for me.
Meade--- Unique flavor, jammy, sweet and berry flavor. Prolific at a young age. Not vigorous. Slow grower.
Local unknown--- Super super sweet, large size, almost date-like/maple flavor, very juicy

Subject: what is the best kind of water? For ourselves, for figs, and for our life? Replies: 9

I have been trying to learn more about water lately and it seems there are a lot of ideas floating around the scientific community. I have learned that there are three different types of distilled water and that they are all different chemically and energetically. And now I have also learned that the structure of water is very important to. So what I would like to ask is does anyone know,or has experience in the field of water science who could shed some light on what has and is being said about water?

Here are a few videos that might explain what sort of information that is out there that I'm alluding to.I hope we can all share our thoughts on the subject because I think it's important that we know more about water, given the fact that water is what keeps us alive as well as our plants and figs alive as well.

Hey Dennis, what meters do you own? Can you recommend a good moister meter?

The sprayers spray whatever solution you decide to add to it. Some just use straight tap water. I used drinking water and I added my clonex solution. Also in a few days I am going to use greenfuse root stimulator on the callus that forms.

I used clonex rooting hormone gel, clonex nutrient solution, that's it.

I finally got my turboklone machine. I hope this works out, I've never used one of these machines before, but I followed the directions to the tee. So anyway, if anyone wants to watch how I set up my machine and my fig cuttings in the machine here's the link to the video.

I cant remember exaclty what video on YouTube explains it but Tom Spelman eluded to it once, my memory is failing me, but he called it a new technique that floyd ziager was having great success with

1) bottom stock type --Super vigorous
2) intermediate root stock--middle
3) the top scion -- the variety you want is on top and you've given it the best the best components

I have never tried grafting and I'm getting ready to try it for the first time this winter. So one thing that keeps coming up is parafilm. haha.

Is this how you do it more or less. Or does it need to be a lot tighter?

Really cool video. If you do this again can you please film yourself using the buddy tape.

But my question is this, do you wrap the entire graft with the tape?

I watched the video like 5 times. Your grafting tool says "patented" on it. Some of the cheaper versions on Ebay from China don't say "patented". I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

If anyone has a good variety of caprifig and would be willing to sell me a cutting of theirs, would you please consider sending me a pm.I have a few varieties that require pollination such as desert king.

Where do fig orchads get the wasps they need. I talk to a fig orchard owner and he didn't know what I was talking about. He told me he grew several varieties for the commercial market some of which I know need pollination. But I think he was shocked that I was asking him al these strange questions about figs.

I see a lot of cuttings in pictures on the forum with some kind of black material covering the exposed cuts.

Hey jdfrance,

Do you plant your fig trees so that all the roots and some of the trunk are under the soil line?

I was told to do that by my local nursery place.

I never followed this advice though.

Wouldn't planting the tree that deep below the soil line ROT the trunk and the root ball.

Anyone Know?

Just wanted to hear from you guys how you plant you fig trees in the ground. I like to mix a little potting soil and sand with my native soil. I did a big hole. I stick the fig tree in the hole and back fill. And I may or may not put a little pine bark mulch around the tree.

I've learned the hard way. I only plant trees in the fall. They need all that time to adapt before the intense summer heat comes.

Please share any advise or things that have worked for you.

are korina77-2008 and svet_vasyl-2008 the same person???

I bought two black madeira starters from svet_vasyl-2008 and on their paypal and email the name korina was in both accounts names???

The package I received from svet_vasyl-2008 said it came from Brooklyn, NY???

Any questions I've sent both of these were answered with vague replies. Such as I got the cuttings from someone in a trade. And I have requested photos of their mother plant, but so far nothing.

They even have a cloning machine that expresses the hot air that gets built up in the machine. It uses a fan to express the air.

I cant stop thinking about figs. I dream about figs. I think about figs all day. I look at the pictures of figs on here. Sometimes when I'm sad I watch fig videos. There is just something about fig trees that is so peaceful. I look at my trees everyday. I talk to people about figs and they look at me funny, but I cant help it. I drive around looking for fig trees and ask my neighbors about their fig trees. Sometimes I stay up late and eat strawberry jam and pretend I'm eating a black madeira.

Oh okay I see what you mean. Its cuz I had purchased some Kiwi plants and they came with the male and females. So thats how I kinda got the idea that maybe you could just have the male and females on one tree to make it easy. Thanks for the input.

This is so awesome.....I'm going to invest in a cloning machine now just for the heck of it....thank you Ascpete....I had read so many success stories on cloning machines, but I wanted to ask the community before I made any big investments in an expensive cloning machine....I will post the results as soon as I get my own cloning machine. To tell you the trough I struggle a lot with moisture control while the cutting are in the moss and after I plant them in soil.....That is why I want to give cloning with a machine a shot.

Thanks again ascpete for sharing...those roots look amazing btw. :)

2 of the original 8 have been up potted, 1 died and 5 of the original are still in the bubble cloner but are being fed with Flora Nova Grow nutrient solution, current rooting success rate at 90+ %

This is just an idea I had while day dreaming so don't take it too serious

Lets say you have a fig tree variety that needs pollination....lets say Zidi for example

Lets say you let the tree get established for a few years

Then what if you grafted some caprifig cuttings onto some of the branches of the Zidi

Lets say you attract so wasps and they live in the caprifigs that are now on the tree

So you know have male caprifigs growing on you tree that needs to be pollinated

Is it even possible to graft caprifig cuttings onto another fig tree?
