I did tried to contact Tam via pm and email, no response yet.

I have black madeira and it taste excellent.  the only problem is the fruit tends to split during the rainy season BUT still an excellent taste to me. Tam's White madeira look very attractive and I guest it has the same quality with black madeira or better.

Hopes Tam, can response to us thank you

Very nice look.

I noticed that the stripe some times does not so obvious for MR. Does it due to the plant maturity or the heat?

Hi Dennis, all of them (expect Black Spanish and BT Not) are most common verities for us in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Black Jack, Improved BT and Red Isreal are producing medium to big fruits year round.

I agreed that they are good in hot and humid weather.

Hi hot101dog,

1. Yes the fruit is edible & i consumed a lot from the tree found in Putrajaya wetland. Anyway, the taste is not as good as common figs.
2. There are million of small insert when the fruit is over ripened BUT i doubt that they are wasp

Yes Strudeldog, you are 100% correct. Rice hull compost after some times. Normally, we dont use fresh rice hull.we  will pre compost with brown/red sugar and EM (effective micro organism).

The mix with rice hull is a bit heavier than the perlite and one good think is that rice hull dont have dust like perlite.

Hi all,

very interesting topic.  I wounder what is the ideal humidity % to root the fig cutting and after transplant from cup to bigger pot.  i always have the humidity problem that caused mold and rot to my cutting.

We use rice hull as we have it cheap in Malaysia & Indonesia for potting mix. Very ideal when mixed together with cocoa peat and soil. We use perlite during rooting only.

Thanks Brent,

1. I shield the end cutting with Broduex mixture (Copper sulfate + lime) that is why its look blue.
2. The cutting is kept inside the container & almost 3 weeks now. I open the cover almost every day for fresh air.
3. I place the container inside the house and the temp is about 27C
4. I pour little amount of water when i see the perlite dry.

Hi,

I have some cutting started rooting with some leafs, i dont water the cup frequently as i'm afraid of over watering and kill the figs.  However, i found that some of the new leaf on the top started to get black/brown in color.  Does this show not enough water or the root has problem.  How can i save the fig?

Hi all,

This fig is local to southeast asia, we dont eat them fresh as the taste is not sweet enough and the ripe fruit (in dark red color) usually full of wasp inside.  I use the ripe fruit as a fishing bite for wild carp.  The ripe and dry fruit smell very nice and yes some people of us cooked with curry (beef curry).

Hi everyone,

We have dragon fruit around the year in Malaysia either the red or white meat.  The white meat was first introduced here followed by the red as commercial and garden crop.  Lately the red is more popular as it is sweeter and easily available everywhere in our market .

I never plant the tree (cactus like) but like the fruit very much.  What i understand the tree is easy to plant and grow.

I see there are baby figs grows in some of the pots. Is it common in Turkey to plant fig using the fig's seed and does the figs need pollination?

Yes, some fruits are on the root.  The fruit grow from the same stalk of the previous fruits.  The stalk will keep longer and therefore the number of fruits will grow as well.

Not easy to get because not many people willing to plant due to the size of the tree and many of us do not know about the fruit is edible.

Dear friends, i'm new member to this forum.

I would like to share about our local fig and fig from cold climate that i try to grow.

Our so call local fig is known as Ficus Auriculata (it may not our native plant but being here since many many years).  This fig can grow very big tree in our climate and produced nice sweet fruit all around the year.

I have recently tried to grow fig tree from cold climate region which i bought from my friend in Indonesia. One of the tree that i have and identified by my Indonesian friend is called Flanders.

I hope that i would be able to have more variates of figs & learn to grow helthy figs from this forum. TQ

Ficus Ariculata

Very interesting to know that figs also can grow in tropical area. Unfortunately, we don't have nursery like Belleclare here.
