The paper definitely gets moist eventually. I have tried waxed cardboard from an OJ carton, 15lb felt paper, and some Tyvek house wrap folded over all as stiffeners inside the tape or foil. I found plastic didn't have enough give to make a good impression for me. The jury is still out on my experimental groups- we"ll see how they fare outside this winter. The tags beat out wood and plastic labels hands down though.

I love the streamlined concept of 'planting' a cutting and theoretically not having to do anything more than monitor it till its time to move to larger pots. May have to have some of my students do an experiment along these lines with a couple different experimental groups to test multiple variables. Thanks for sharing a great idea!

What a great collection of foliage, with a nice frame I would hang that on my wall for sure.

Some real nice pics Grasa. Are some of the cuttings you sent me in the Spring from that tree? (dark brwn turkey) I too would be interested in its ID.

Donna
Of the figs you have listed are they all slated to go in ground or only select varieties? Been reading up on apricots and assorted crosses- looks like I may need to clear another rows worth of trees and expand before I actually get started!

Haha, yeah- exactly. I went back and reread the article. Erratic Spring temps cause blossom loss along with a host of other diseases and insects but the author ended with a statement that if only once every five years they were able to pick a ripe apricot it would be worth it! So, I guess they really are that awesome. I'll have to search out a good variety or two.

That's quite the nice little conglomeration of fruity heaven there Donna. I think I will forgo the cherries in my orchard and I recently read an article discussing the poor performance of apricots in the Northeast. Have you heard anything about that? I have purchased the posts for my orchard, now just have to get them laid out and put in! I'm looking at around a 1/4 acre or so.

Sweet greenhouse! Is that a Western Red Cedar frame? Bet it was filled before it was built! Seems you can never have a big enough greenhouse. Enjoy it.

I'm still fiddling with layout for my orchard so it's good to see I am on the right track!

That's an awesome setup Frank. What aspect or direction do you have the rows running? Do they get full morning sun and then filtered afternoon sun through the pines?

I think there very well may be something to you observation. Review the bid history, strangely it was bid up $3.00 in about a minute and 20 seconds by the same person with no competing bids. I'm not super proficient with Ebay but have been to quite a few auctions where a seller has agents run bids up. This seems fishy to say the least.

Thank You all for the warm welcome. Yes, quite excited to see how things go. Have a book on propagation ordered. We may end up planting some of our successes here on school grounds being that last summers wind storm wiped out most of the campus trees. I like seeing my students in situations or trying things they are not accustomed to, eating figs would probably be one(they went crazy for snow peas in last years veggie garden). You should see them when I take them into the woods for ecology hikes, tough city kids- Ha

Hello all,
This is my first post, as I have been lurking around since Easter break, and it was time to say HI. I'm a science teacher at the county alternative high school and was looking for something 'easy' to grow/propagate with my students in our greenhouse. also, I am currently working on creating a small 90' x 70' orchard at my house and the two projects lead me to figs!
I actually got some cuttings last week from a friend when I put a shout out on Facebook and Grasa was so kind to send some to me also. This is a very helpful forum and I've been digging the great sense of community here. I hope to find several fruitful varieties to keep in-ground here in zone 7.

Thanks,
Ben
