8 ft apart and 12 ft between rows. The raised beds are only about 5 ft apart, because I wanted to fit in all the trees I had at the time. I plan on keeping everything well pruned.

Im way late on posting these videos, this is from over 1 month ago. Hope they inspire some of you. This has been a vision of mine for a couple years now and this is just the start. Feel free to ask any questions.

I plan on post videos throughout the summer to show the progress.

This is a really cool UK nursery that specializes in exceptional container trees and plants. I had to show everyone these fig trees

30 gallon
Ficus carica (Fig) AE02 specimen.jpg

65 gallon
Ficus carica (Fig) AE03 specimen.jpg

They use drip irrigation with ferilizer, a coco coir based mix and mycorrihizae.

Remember, fungus gnat larvae eat roots...not the flying adults. Coco coir watered with gnatrol or similar is the best option.

Leaves and Fig match eastern Brown Turkey. Also called Laredek. Check out my posts on Sunbird unknown.

Thanks figpig! I have drain plugs with overflow tubes in the bottom of the flood beds that go from 1-4" vertically to control how much they will fill up(google flood and drain overflow valves).
I just set up the pools temporarily since were not getting much rain lately.

I usually let the trees drink for about 12-24 hrs and release anything left after a day. I usually fill them up to about 1-1/2" on the 1 gallon pots.  Search the Kratky hydroponic method to see how temporarily submerging roots partially is not the same as fully submerging roots in terms of oxygenation and nutrient uptake.

Great feedback! Update, I'm about 99 percent sure this is Laredek Easter Brown Turkey. All cuttings root very fast and produce fruit 1st year. Very productive variety of breba and main crop.

Not a San Pedro type but....English Brown Turkey will produce a ton of brebas here in Houston in late May/early June and main crop until Oct. Check out my posts on Sunbird Fig.

The real Kadota, has a thin almost rubbery skin and light syrupy flesh with honey leak from the eye. I think people often confuse them with Green Ischia, Italian Honey and Peter's Honey which are all commonly available. This looks like a real Kadota to me.

That's what I use. Has made a huge difference. In hot rainy weather apply every month or so as it will break down much faster.

Looks like a mulberry, they have very broad range of leaf types since they are wild seedlings. I use to have one in my yard with those same leaves.

Im saying that the majority of plants being sold in nurseries around here as "TX Everbearing" are actually Celeste. I think the TX Everbearing name was just a way to market the old southern favorite Celeste. From a nursery marketing perspective, its a great name.
I have about 5 trees in my neighborhood, all different leaf patterns, slight difference in fruit size but they are all Celeste. One of which i know was sold as a TX everbearing.

At this point, there could be a handful of different culitivars being sold under the tx everbearing name.

Just my observations from field/nursery research in Texas.

After much research its clear that 90% are actually just Celeste with variation in leaf patterns and differences in fruit depending weather and microclimate. Look up old posts on this topic.

I made the original post. I have been doing practice cuts with mine, use a small crescent wrench or calipers to match size and you will not find a tighter fit anywhere.

Have you guys considered there may be a difference in blade sharpness amongst different tools? Mine is quite sharp. I'm quite a successful grafter using box cutters, grafting knifes and parafilm. I will let everyone know my results this spring.I don't really see how these could fail unless duller blades are crushing the cambium.

Just got this in on saturday. $20 on ebay with free shipping. Cheap and works perfectly, the design and construction is suprisingly good also.  At this price i may buy a couple for backups/blades. It says that it cuts up to 1/2" scion but will really fit up to about 5/8". If your hand is not so steady at grafting this is the way to go, the graft union on the middle blade is super tight.  I expect 90% success with this.

Long before the leaves will wilt the cutting is rotting at the bottom, this is from inadequate air flow from oversaturation or density/particle size of the rooting medium. I switched to coco coir this year and have had almost none of this. Coco allows for 30% air flow even when fully saturated. Check out my propagation setup post for details.

10-14ml part A/ 1 gallon
10-14 ml part B/1 gallon
6ml micronutrients/ 1 gallon
Every Feeding

I have only flush fed them for 1 week around the 2 month mark. To flush any residual salt buildup from the nutrients.

They key is a low npk available to the plant almost continuously rather than a high npk sporadically(like a standard fert once every few weeks or months). This is a simalar effect to using a time release fertilizer, but even with time release i suspect they are not consistently released(ie rain, temperature, humidity). This is what most hydroponic systems are based on. You can learn a heck of a lot from the marijuana growing forums...those guys have it down pat!

Subject: dark vs light for rooting test Replies: 8
Posted By: palazzophoto Views: 453

Light promotes root growth, this is contrary to popular belief. Sunlight = heat which will raise the temperature too high and deter rooting if above 90+ degrees or so for many species. Artificial uv light or sunlight in a climate controlled environment(window sill) is the way to go. It will also help deter most fungal growth.

I have done experiments as well and light always performed better.

I just wanted to point out that you could never do this in a non sterile medium like potting soil with young established roots. Bacteria/fungus/gnats would take over very quickly!

I transition these out by putting them in another container and removing the lid 1/4" at a time over a 1-2 week period or with a clear bag and opening it bit by bit over a 1-2 period.
The transition needs to be at minimum 1 week or you will get wilting leaves that will dry up.

My nutrient mix:

1 gallon tap water that has been bottled for 2-3 days
Canna Aqua Vega Parts A &B 10-14 ml/gallon
Microbe Life Vitamins & Aminos 6 ml/gallon
1/2 Teaspoon of Mosquito Bits /gallon

Thanks guys, i have come a long way since last winter!
