Dennis and Jackie, thanks so much for your hospitality and great food, not to mention the patience and enthusiasm with which you showed us your beloved plants.

Indeed it was a wonderful opportunity to meet all the fig enthusiasts in the area and those who traveled 4+ hours to share their experiences and have fun. It's amazing to see that when people care about something then distance doesn't matter anymore. It was nice to see the people from last year as well as to make new friends.

Cheers!

Dragos

They might be a 7 but they look good nevertheless. The taste is all relative.

All the best

Fantastic gathering! Wonderful afternoon in the company of awesome people that share the same passion for the figs. Gloria, thank you very much for taking the lead on this and seeing it done. I've learned a lot of good stuff from people much more experienced. And, Hershell and Mike, thank you once again!

That is an awesome story, Dennis! I'm sure you were looking over your shoulder for a while. Good to know this happened here in Charlotte. :)

I bet that quite a few people on the forum have at least one funny/scary "fig-ninja" story to tell. So, start sharing so that all of us could have a laugh. As you saw, the statute of limitations is 2 years. :)

Good story!

Hi everyone,

I am quite a beginner with the fig "magic" and I am counting on the generosity of the forum members to be able to have a few good tasting figs. But I wanted to share some pictures with everyone and maybe the experts on the forum might be able to identify it. This is a fig that my parents have in Romania and it has been in the family for about at least 28 years (my grandmother had it). I still remember when I was little, getting my fingers covered and my lips burning from the milky sap but could not stop eating them. These pictures were taken by my mother at the end of last summer (beginning of September) with one exception which was taken in the spring (take a look at the brebas). She told me that it was loaded with figs such that she had to make fig preserves. I remember it being extremely juicy, soft and sweet, very little figgy taste.

Enjoy the pictures and please post any potential names. You will notice about 2 the leaf patterns: one quite elongated (the tree photo) and one not so elongated (leaf on the table). I have no idea where my grandmother could have gotten it from, especially since figs are not exactly common in Romania.

I will be there as well. It is almost in my "back yard". I'm in Fort Mill as well. The date sounds good to me too.

Hi everyone,

This is very exciting. I am looking forward to meeting everyone as well. Whichever the date ends up being, I'll make some time to stop by. September 21st sounds pretty good.

All the best!

Hi everyone,

This forum is amazing. I have learnt so much about figs in the last several days that I couldn't have found anywhere else. Thank you all for sharing your experience.

I am new at growing figs but I live in Charlotte, NC and I am counting on the weather and on my dedication to growing plants. I have noticed that it is kind of late in the season for fig cuttings and UCD is not shipping summer cuttings, but if anyone has any to spare or to get rid of, I would really appreciate it. I can offer a good home. :))

Thanks in advance

Regards

Excellent idea! Colonel Francis Beatty Park could be pretty good for this type of gathering. It's less crowded than Park Rd.
