Thanks for the replies, I don't have any digestive issues, allergies to pollen or bee stings or food sensitivities that I know of. I'm off of the buckwheat honey for now and may try different types in much smaller amounts in the future. Thanks for all the replies

I recently picked up a big jar of raw buckwheat honey (from a local guy in ohio) knowing all the health benefits of honey in general and buckwheat honey being very good for you, i started taking a teaspoon every day and it gave me a nice boost of energy in the morning.
After about a week i started getting fairly bad abdominal pain 20 minutes later. I stopped using it for about a week and have been fine until tonight i had another spoonful and sat here with terrible pain for 2 hours.
I always eat something before or after, i dont have any allergies or sensitivity to anything that i know of, could raw honey cause this?
I know honey is acidic and has numerous enzymes and such, but is it enough to cause this type of pain?

Are the pictures of the ripe fruit from your plant in Pittsburgh? So it won't need the wasp to pollinate?
It might be a variety already known, maybe Bass has an idea what it might be, but nice looking fig!

So I also stopped by Jungle Lagoon today while on vacation down here, after playing a round of mini golf there looked to be around 6 or 7 fig trees around. I have no idea if they're the same varieties but I did notice the leaves differ on a few of them.
I didn't manage to get any cuttings but if actually on the course it would be rather easy to snag a few. Maybe next year if I make it back.
No fruit left on any of them I could find, but managed to take a handful of pictures. There were also a few banana plants around too.

Been there, done that; nope! I presently have a bunch of potted persimmon which do the shuffle in and out of the garage along with the figs. THAT works. they will survive in large containers in the garage or unheated basement as long as things don't go down too cold and will sprout and fruit when placed outside. I am constantly looking for extremely cold hardy persimmon varieties and bought several more like this season from England's nursery; that said, I have burned through more money than I want to admit in trying to grow them in ground. Now, I grow them and I love having them but they stay in large containers....

Hope that is helpful with regards to zone 6A persimmons...

T

PS... by the way, the America persimmon does fine in the ground. I had one for years that produced bushells of small fruit that was good tasting... to a point. They are small and have a large seed. I cut that tree down and have been fighting a loosing battle with the root system continuing to sprout suckers all over the place. I now am considering using these volunteers for root stock to take my good varieties and graft them onto this very hardy root stock... I still wouldn't leave the resulting grafted plant in the ground becasue the grafted portion would die back.

I'm curious which persimmons from England's do you have now?
I have a Kasandra which survived last winter unprotected and am looking to get a chinibuli possibly. I've also planted and killed a handful of Asian persimmons here in Pittsburgh...

I might just have to dig mine up and replace it with a crimson star or phoenix tears. I've been eating them anyway even though theyre terrible. For healths sake I guess. They're taking over my little berry patch I have them in, which I wouldn't mind if they tasted good.
Thanks for the video and Ross

I have sweet lifeberry and big lifeberry. The big is not very good tasting at all. It tastes almost like an under ripe pepper without the heat? The sweet lifeberry is better tasting, but not real great.

I've posted a somewhat similar thread a while back, can't find it at the moment.
I go down to MB about every year, be back there next month.
If you're looking for fresh figs while you're there, there are farmers markets almost daily, in different locations. I've picked up some on a few occasions. Indigo farms is also a short drive away and they have figs.
I am going to try to find these mini golf figs..

I remember when I was a kid seeing a few copperheads near our house. We do have an occasional brown recluse running around. I know a few people that were hospitalized from brown recluse spider bites just this year.
As far as protecting yourself, you just need to be aware that they could be anywhere. :/

At how many leaves do you pinch at? I started doing at every third leaf last year and this year and keep seeing people pinching at 6 or 7 now. Is pinching at three too much?

I got this fig from johnsvmf1 via eBay a few years back. He was an active member here at one time. His sons have been selling a few plants here and there the past few years to help pay for schooling.
The story to go with this one was fairly interesting, it was reportedly growing near the victory over America palace near Baghdad. Cuttings were taken by the father I believe during the gulf war? And brought home and grown.
I reached out to them the past few years and they don't seem to know of this needs pollinated or if its a common type, but for the first time for me it has a little figlet, so time will tell.
Does anyone else have this same fig from them?
