Hi Luzzu,

If your growing them in a pot, you can extend the growing season by breaking dormancy early in spring and extending it in the fall.  You can make a little mini greenhouse over it.

My uncle has a shed with plexiglass roof and its like 10 degrees warmer in there.

Hi all,

With spring approaching does anybody have any Granthams Royal cuttings for sale in canada? I have heard great reviews about the taste of this fig.

I have searched online but was unable to find a nusury that sells this fig in canada.

Does it also go by another synonym that I am unaware of?

Thanks to all in advance!

Hi Pino, You can try the green barn farm. I have visited the farm and he grows his bananas outside and takes it inside bareroot during the winter. The fruit is edible I have purchased a lot of trees from them. They specialize in cold hardy trees for canada. http://www.greenbarnnursery.ca/collections/indoor-edibles/products/musa-dwarf-banana

Below is a picture of his banana plant that he takes indoors during the winter.

For me,

Its my Greek fig that I germinated from seed.  This summer will be its third year of growth from seed.  I germinated about 10.  Hopefully one turns out be fruit bearing.  Its a stark black fig with Burgundy red on the inside....well that was the fig I got the seeds from.

Beautiful taste.

Hopefully I will get something interesting.

Subject: Kadota Fig with Some Stubbles - Is it a Male Fig? Replies: 3
Posted By: masterful Views: 510

Hi,

I was actually able to get my Kadota figs to ripen for the first time in four years.  I did notice a few weird figs that looked to have some point stubbles at the eye of the fig, for lack of a better description. Could they be male figs ? The rest of the figs from the same branch had a normal open eye without any "stubbles" protruding out.

I have attached some photos and also some photos of the same figs open.  They don't seem like male figs because the skin is relatively thin.  Has anybody seen this before?

I know this may seem like a stupid question but once the main crop figs grow on young green branches and then when the green growth turns into wood for the next years Breba crop...do figs ever grow back on the same place where they sprouted from?

What I am asking is that a fig will come out twice in the same spot (main crop and next years breba), will it every come back again or do I have to keep on pruning to stimulate new growth hence new figs?

This is the one thing that I am not sure about.

Would anybody be willing to trade or sell one, either seeds, cuttings or a plant if you can ship to Canada.

Hi all,

I am new to the forum.  Just wanted to know if anybody has had any luck with the Persian/Iranian mountain fig "Anjeer Kohi".  Its supposed to be very cold hardy and I am looking to see if there is a cutting for trade or for sale.

Our Canadian winters are harsh, looking for an alternative to the Chicago Hardy, Dessert King if the mountain is more cold hardy.

Thanks!
