Option 3 - let it grow then do an airlayer. Looks like its only a little over a foot tall.

I agree with Drew 100%. Late figs holds their flavor and taste much better than early ones. Had my last Black Madeira a week ago,it was green but tasted just as good. When I first got into figs I was told by everyone you can't grow Black Madeira in ground in New Jersey. It's been 3'yrs and each year more and more figs produced and at an earlier date. I have about 70 in ground trees so far have only wrapped the high valued ones. Out of those unwrapped only loss one last year. Basically what I'm saying is you can get all the advice and opinion but you'll never know usless you tried for yourself, each location is different.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Richie I haven't noticed any doubles on mine, it's a 2 yr old tree.

This is what I've been feeding and using for potting mix - 4 part agway pinebark mulch 2 part peat moss 1 part perlite 1 part compost, lime ,couple of handfuls of osmocote plus and the gross part; lots of buried seafood waste i.e. Fish juice, fish head, bones, guts, crab shells, shrimp shells, clam and mussel shells.just about anything from the sea, make sure to bury it deep ;)

Brett when you emptied the reservoir and let the mix dried up a little it's not that heavy at all. You could easily move it with a regular handtruck but I have a 600lb one made for moving drums just in case.

Vito my friend definitely next year!

Same thing happened to me last year with Maltese Falcon and CdD gris from eBay. Mold started to form within couple days in humidity dome. Not one cutting from this seller survive. Had other cuttings in the same dome from different sources and they all rooted.

Caitlin,

My trees are grafted, bought them from Starkbros nursery. They're very low maintenance, produced from 300-400 persimmons each year. No problems whatsoever except for birds and squirrels when come time to harvest.

Wow!!!... For those of you that don't have it, go get it. It's that good. I've had Rdb, jh adriatic, black greek, Brooklyn dark, peter's honey, strawberry, Dalmatie, battaglia green, Bensonhurst purple, sicilian white, celeste and a few unknowns this year and nothing came close. When you first bite into it you get a hint of flowers then berries then something else that's hard to pinpoint but very enjoyable. I think this is what everyone is referring to as "complex" flavor. The skin was tough, the flavor around the eye was most intense.
