Got it, Smyfigs!

All cuttings spoken for. Thank you everyone and I hope you much success rooting these cuttings and enjoying the fruits! Maybe one day I'll come visit one of you lucky recipients to experience the goodness that Battaglia has to offer when grown in the right climate.

Please let me know when you receive them. Cuttings will go out tomorrow because of the holiday.

Hello and I apologize for the delay. As it turns out, a few of the roots have root knot nematodes. It isn't much but I am not comfortable sending this to anyone. When I first planted this, I was not aware of nematodes and did not prepare the soil properly; I was a newbie :0

The cuttings are still up for grabs. I will send Flat rate Priority mail. I'm only asking for shipping and 2 bucks to cover supplies, gas, etc.

Please PM me. I may only have enough for 5-7 people at 2 cuttings each.

My paypal address is classicalah@gmail.com

Please send payment as FRIENDS/FAMILY - $7

I'm happy to do this. It is a great variety but Florida is not for her.

I'll be pulling it out of the ground today and will know better about cuttings.

Thank you for the interest!

I'm going to pull it out of the ground, hopefully, by Saturday at the latest. I'll weigh it and should know how much shipping would be.

First come, first served. jaylyne is first, then Mai, then Smyfigs.

Please give me a couple of days to figure out the whole shipping process.

Thank you for the quick responses!

Hello everyone! Happy New Year!

I have a 2.5 yo Battaglia Green tree currently in the ground that I am going to be pulling out. I'm just trying to see if there is any interest out there for such as tree. It is around 4-5 ft. tall.

I live 30 min. north of Tampa. I could also ship if you want to pay for shipping. To save on shipping, we could even prune it to get it to fit in a smaller-sized box.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Safar! I apologize for being late in seeing this thread.

The mother tree from which your I 258 came, I received from a well-respected member here as well as ourfigs.com. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Please keep me posted :-)

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Hershell and Willofig, you never know :-)

Jon and Joe, thanks!

Harvey and Andreas, I find that girdling is not necessary for my application because the whole set-up isn't very heavy and also because the air layers aren't usually on the tree very long. It only takes 3 weeks in Summer for air layers to root in my climate. I simply use a cotton string at the bottom and top openings of the bag which I tie tightly. I like cotton for its better friction which prevents loosening of strings over time. This helps prevent rain water from getting in as well as drying out of the soil media.

As long as my media is just right, I won't usually find any decay. I've had several branches flop over after a windy spell and with a little investigation, that is when I realized that low-friction strings loosen over time which then allow rain water to get in. A couple of weeks of "wet" soil rots the branch enough and a little wind will expose the weak link.

I like to use those air-filled plastic cushions that are used in shipping merchandise. I simply open both ends, slide it over a branch, tie the bottom, fill with media, tie the top, and cover with foil. For bigger branches, I've had to order 4x4x9 bags (I could be an inch off somewhere but you get the idea).

I hope I explained it clearly.

No, not much root action going on. The air layers were put on too late last year...lesson learned.

Hello fellow fig-lovers! In response to the requests of many fig enthusiasts, here is the link to a short video I shot the other day to show/prove a few things to different people according to their interests in asking me to do this.

Just to clarify, my Galicia Negra tree is about 4 feet tall and is in bush form. This form suits my goals the best as it gives me lots of branches to work with. My Martinenca Rimada, on the other had, I hesitated pruning in the beginning and that is why you see a much taller rather than wider stature. It is about 6 feet tall.

I'm not exactly sure why some are so surprised how I was able to produce lots of air layers out of my Galicia Negra, in particular. Is the climate? Soil? Care? I have always treated my trees with the utmost care and maybe that's why?

Being in the natural health field, my personal opinion is that nature flourishes best when any form of it is treated naturally. In the case of fig trees, I only use organic fertilizers (Espoma Citrus Tone and bird droppings). I do not let my lawn guy get anywhere close to my backyard because I do not want any chemical residues around my beloved fruit trees.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. If you have any doubts or suspicions about anything that I do, please still feel free to ask.

Harvey, having extensive knowledge in Psychology has afforded me to understand people's intentions with their words and actions.

A couple of months or so ago, Bass emailed me asking about my Galicia Negra. He mentioned that there were several customers/fellow fig growers who had approached him to verify the authenticity of my tree, and also that he and those others were surprised that I had had as many air layers as I did for having a young tree. And with being a Psychology geek and all, I have a strong confirmation that you are one of those people.

Correct me and I apologize if I'm wrong but your whole intention is to discredit me. This is based on past knowledge gathered from me directly speaking with you and identifying your behavior patterns, and and others' impression of you. I have observed that you have a tendency to quickly judge others without any solid evidence and it is something that I have, unfortunately, associated with you. Sorry, it's probably not something you like to hear but it's my observation.

So, putting Bass' email, my observations of you, others' impression of you, with your intention for this thread, I am 99.98% sure of my conclusion.

As a quick and obvious example, notice how you added an unnecessary and cheap comment on the 7th line of your last post. Again, as a Psychology geek, a comment like that registers as someone who feels insecure and feels the need to be right in order to feel better about himself/herself even if they do not have concrete evidence to support their position.

Today, I intend to shoot a video of it just to prove to you, Bass, and whoever else cares to know that you don't need a gigantic tree to produce lots of air layers. *Bass, I am not calling you out, just so you know. I am excited, actually, to show you how the trees you sent me are doing.

Also, do you not remember that I also bought 2 young Galicia Negras from you? One of them died, remember? And your reply after I mentioned it to you was something like, "I knew I should not have sent out a young tree with an unestablished root system." I am not mentioning that to call you out because had I really wanted you to replace it, I would've asked you there and then.

I let it go at post #16. I am again ready to let it go now, Harvey. My wife needs help with the kids and I've been spending too much time defending myself to a non-authority (no offense intended, but it's simply the truth).

Can we move on?

I don't want to dance this dance anymore, sir.

Life, perspectively, is too short.

PM me, Harvey, and we can arrange it. I'd be happy to send you a tree or cuttings for the same price I had originally paid for the mother tree. Oh yeah, and shipping too, please.

I do not want to get on anybody's bad side but, who do you think you are?

As many of you know, my family and I have been blessed with some good auctions on ebay. Yes, we do have some special people in our society, but for the most part, most people would understand that when they have a good thing going it would not be wise to jeopardize long-term success for a quick buck. In other words, why would I want to ruin the potential of making more money in the long-term by making a few bucks now, cheating people and trashing my reputation. It just doesn't hold up to whatever it is I am, really and ultimately, being accused of.

I've invested too much money, time, effort, and sacrificed too much family time to ruin a good thing now. And, I honestly have so much more to offer in the future that it would only make sense to maintain my excellent reputation. I have planted way too many fig trees to solely enjoy them for personal consumption.

I have sold 2 other MRs on ebay. Both of those listings had 2 photos each (1 of the whole tree and 1 close-up). Noone questioned the authenticity of those 2 trees. Why would I, all of a sudden, have a change of mind and start selling fake ones?

Harvey, just a few pointers for you so that you can be more credible in the future.

- I know how closely you watch ebay fig auctions just based on my past experiences with you. There is just no way that you could not have known it was me who was selling the MR. Isn't checking who the seller is one of the first things we all look at on ebay?

And, according to you, you went to "investigate" it for an overseas client.

- Taiwan and Thailand are 2 completely countries. Keep your story consistent. Consistency = Honesty

- There is more than enough to go around for everybody. One person's gain never means another person's loss as there are numerous ways to be blessed by life.

I started becoming a happier camper when I started to be sincerely happy for other people's successes.

I apologize if the last one rubs anyone the wrong way...no offense intended.

Oh, and Harvey, please give me your zip code so I can give you an exact shipping price.

This has been more stressful than my career and I'm in the healthcare field...lol. I'm sport about the whole thing if it is going to help ease people's minds.

I am actually planning to take a video of some of my in-ground trees tomorrow since a lot of people have been asking about some of my trees and their surprise of how quickly the trees are growing.

Ok, here are a few pics I took this morning. I hope they're stripes enough...

On a side note, Harvey, please PM me first before you make a public statement like you did. I would really appreciate that! It's not like you did not know it was me who's got the MR on eBay right now because you have wished me luck in the past, congratulated me on a I-258 sale, etc. And, I have on my description my figs4fun ID.

As a fellow eBay seller, I'm pretty sure you would understand where I'm coming from. If it wasn't for a few caring and loyal customers, I would not have known about your statement.

Peace!

Harvey, it's my MR on ebay. Not sure how you concluded that it doesn't have any stripes because I did not post any close-up pics of it. I will post a clearer photo tonight, time willing.

Fyi, mine came from Bass!

I would like to donate some cuttings of Lattarulla, Kathleen's Black, Lowes Unknown, and a few others. The trees are very much awake and still growing. Is it a good idea to take cuttings now or would it be better to wait 'til they go dormant?

Hello!

I have put up a De la Reina on ebay. However, I accidentally included 2 incorrect pictures. The 2nd and 3rd photos are of Italian 258, which is also up for auction. 1st and 4th photos are accurate.

*a friend suggested that I clarify this error on the forum and in the description part of the listing.

Have a nice day!

Paul,my understanding is that CA is strict regarding live plants coming in. I am just not comfortable selling and shipping a tree and have it confiscated. I would really not want anyone to waste their money. I'll let you know if I'll have cuttings. Also, I travel to CA quite often and could bring a live plant with me.
