Just wanna take a second and let everyone know that if you use your credit card through PayPal, you will be protected for 180 days from PayPal AS WELL AS your credit card's policy. Most card companies will protect you up to the limit of "up to five months after the last possible delivery date of the item." We had dozens of people use this for a product that was almost a year and a half late on another forum, and I don't remember anyone have any difficulties getting their money back. Just good general knowledge to have, sounds like it won't be an issue here though.

This is a follow-up to a previous post from last year, thanking Marius for the variety of cuttings that he donated to me, and to Ricci for his donation of Maltese Falcon.  I'm sad to admit that I failed to root my Maltese Falcon cutting, but wanted to again express my gratitude for your generosity.  Thank you, Ricci.  Hopefully these two guys still check in from time to time, I have been absent for quite some time.

On Saturday, May 2nd, my home will be toured by between 900 and 1,200 people for our city's garden tour, put on by a local church.  I will be proudly representing our figgy community, with a number of these signs... Hopefully I didn't butcher the spelling!  Marius (don't worry folks, I had his permission) your name is all over my garden... here are a few examples :)

Thank you for the info! Any idea when that happened? I'm really interested in the Chico Garden and am trying to find any information I can.

Does anyone know of any fig varieties that were introduced from the Plant Introduction Station in Chico? I have found reference of them growing more than a hundred different varieties more than a hundred years ago! I'm wondering if any of these have been passed down over time. I know the mother and father kiwi and pistachios all originated here... But what about those figs?!?

The USDA website says I'm in 9A.  Sunset says 8.  Other websites say everything under the rainbow.  They are used to more moist air.  I think maybe I'll start by opening up the greenhouse.

I'm thinking about starting to transition my figs outdoors.  I'm looking for insight.  I have roughly two dozen figs that survived the transition to one gallon pots, and have been sitting in an indoor green house in a sunny window for a few weeks.

The forecast for the next ten days is a night time low of 40+, and a daytime low of 70 and high of 82.  How should I start this transition?  Outside, in their little green house during the day?  Outside in the gh 24 hours a day?  Outside without the green house for a few hours?  In the garage without the green house?

Input is greatly appreciated, seems like this is another great chance to kill figs if not careful...

The original Golden Rice was dropped nearly a decade ago for a newer version aka Golden Rice 2, which is available currently. Yes, Dr. Shiva argued in favor of other crops, however, failed to provide said crops to poor countries ( unlike GR) or to produce any real logic on how the most impoverished nations should get said crops. Another instance of research not being realistic for poor, underdeveloped countries.

I was thinking more along the lines of GMOs like Golden Rice. I have a hard time telling the world to avoid GMOs at the cost of millions of lives and tens-hundreds of millions suffering from debilitating diseases such as permanent blindness. It's easy to sit in our plush houses and make sweeping generalizations, but the fact is that many GMOs have changed the world for literally hundreds of millions of people. And yes, their children and grandchildren will eat and be blindness free.

Suzi, get a Bream Tarrocco if you want a true blood orange. Widely accepted as the best out there. Smith Red is a fantastic blood color navel orange (not actually a blood orange)

I'm honestly not sure how many cuttings are making it to rooting.  Now that I look back, my order was put on the want list 3+ months ago and nothing has come available.

Funny though the one variety I thought that was a given I didn't get, and the one that I thought I wasn't going to get I ended up getting.

I'm going to try and push for 200 fruit trees on my quarter acre.  I'm at 125ish I believe, not counting figs.  I should have at least 50 fig varieties by the time they are ready to go outdoors.

Do you have Italian 258 and/or Preto?  Unless you want BM just for the name, this varieties are reportedly either identical or extremely similar, and much healthier.  I'd go for them if you don't have them.  If you want BM for the name, understandable.

I just dug out a two year old cherry from a pot and noticed it had crown gall. Are figs susceptible to crown gall, or would I be ok planting a fig in the same pot?

Don't use a heat mat. I bought two 8sq foot mats for my 60 degree house. I tried newspaper, paper towels, sphagnum moss, and finally cups with gritty mix, all sealed in bins. The mats dried out the bottom of each potting substrate, quickly charring the new roots. I've had great success, and much more even root growth in completely dark bins in a room that ranges from 60 to 70 degrees. Slower? Yes. Less worry about dehydration? Heck yes.

I think there are only 12 E class figs to be had, lol.  160 is wayyyyy too many for some of us.  I'm on 1/4 acre, with about 120-150 fruit trees at last count, not including ~40 varieties of figs that are still in the cutting phase.  Some of us are limited not by choice, but by space (and/or spouse).
