Lychees tend to be slow growers...just be patient with them...you can add compost to help them along. Mangoes grow like weeds.

Glad you enjoyed the lychee...yes they weren't quite ready....they should have no green on them when you pick them. They are especially good if you have the patience to refrigerate them before you eat them!

For me it's a toss up between mangoes and lychees. Course if you can out them together in a fruit salad...heaven :)

Also...my mom just assumed they were the same fig. I told her they might not be because even though the leaves are similar one produced figs on the old wood (fig 1)and the other produced on the new wood. She said fig 2 only gives her one crop a year ( the fig with figlets on the new growth) she wasn't sure about the other one....it is in a place that it is difficult for her to reach the figs. I will go back and watch the figs as they ripen.
Anyway...before I started on this forum I just assumed they were either Kadota or brown turkey figs since that is what the majority of what is sold here but like I said...these figs have been there for 30+ years. I never paid much attention to them until I got bitten by the fig bug as I really don't care for the honey type figs and didn't know there were any other kind( although her fig jam is to DIE for!). I can't even say that I have had a fig off of these trees (which I certainly will rectify this year) The fig I made my basis for was from somewhere else.
Sorry about the pics being sideways...couldn't figure out how to turn them.

Don't know if it could be kadota because she said the figs are brown when ripe. We are on the big island.

She also said that fig 2 has greenish brown skin. She was not sure about fig 1.

What is the difference between the Lemon and the white Marseilles? I have the latter ( only a cutting so far) and they gave me the 2 names.

Hi...I just put a bunch of rooted cuttings out in the sun. All have pretty good root growth and most have green growth up top. They are all in clear plastic containers. My question is....will the sun burn the roots? should I protect the roots from the sun?
Thanks :)
