I agree with Michael. If you have a wish list of 20 figs or so,  you could
spell it like it is known on this forum.

It's that time of year.
Multi accounts wanting hand outs.

I'm sick of this forum any way...

I use one under my house to monitor temps under my house.
No worries of it getting too cold on my water plumbing without me knowing I'm in trouble.
Never had it go below 43 last winter under there with it 18 degrees outside. But dang nice knowing it.

Doug

edit, I just use a cheap $10 wireless thermometer

All of my trees are in ground.
We just had 2 nights in a row below freezing.
Every fig in the orchard has wrinkled up leaves.
Beings the leaves will be falling in a day or so I
removed all the figs on all my trees.
I do not want the plant trying to produce any fruit this late.
I would rather the strength of the tree to focus on its roots.
Besides, its "cutting" time after the leaves fall.
I can't harvest cuttings with figs still attached....

Where is it that says Sal'sC needs pollinated?
I've read all the old write ups on it that I can find.
Should I just assume it needs pollinated because
of where it was named?

How can that be?
I ate a Sal's C fig two weeks ago, all three Sal's C have figs on them.
And mine tasted very good....and I'm only 45 miles south..or so.

Wow, I ended up with 3 Sal's Corleone in my orchard only because of how hardy they grew.
Went from sticks/cuttings last winter and some produced figs this summer.
I can say with hands on experience the Sal's Corleone grew better than most of any of the cuttings I've started.

Might not be worth a hoot, but you got it.

Deer will not eat anything I put sevin dust on.
I use it on cuttings after I first put them in the ground.

Try to find a dust that ruins the taste for the deer.
Once they try it they leave em alone.

Doug

I hate promoting sevin, but it does have it's uses.

edit:
Im doing a experiment on using hot pepper spray
around my property to see if I can keep them
wishing to go elsewhere.

Malathion, wait till there is no cross  wind and soak your trees with a sprayer.
This stuff will stick on the plant and kill the critter when he chews.

Well, I was raised on a farm.

I do not like sevin unless I absolutely need it.
I just wont eat the fruit from that tree.

Bummer, was hoping there was now a perfectly safe way to rid the pests.

pino, for me seven is to be used as a last resort to stop incest infestation.

I my self have used it on non fruiting trees or those I will not be eating the
fruit.

How do you suggest you get rid of plant destroying pests?

You can use other pesticides that also kill beneficial incests?

Dorment oil sprays can be used, bur beneficial incests will again die.?

Give us ways to prevent us from chewing incests? Mites?

I have a bunch of trees that could spread mites quickly.

What should I use when deer eat my tender new tree's?
Sevin dust kept them away, and the bunnies, and the spring chewing insects.
It let cuttings thrown in the ground survive so long as they were dusted..

Please tell me what works, what is completely safe when used as directed
and has been around as long as sevin dust. I remember people dusting their dog with sevin.
It killed fleas.

I mean no disrespect, but..please show me a product that is completely safe, and works when you need it. Not just sometimes like soaps or oil sprays.

I use sevin on my young trees. Rarely on my adult trees.

Nothing above waist level with dust.
Safety, if you can call it that.
Use gloves, wash your hands when done.

I want a organic, completely safe compromise.

This might get interesting, my mind is open to working solutions.

thanks

Doug

Subject: Fig rust - remove leaves? Replies: 8

If you think the leaves may be diseased, why would you leave them on the plant?
Its best to remove the leaf and the problem at the same time.
Your leaves just look like end of season yellowing to me.

Other opinions will vary.

Doug

I remove yellowing or rust covered leaves on my trees.
I do not spray for rust.
Some varieties show it worse than others.

I like to keep it clean at the base of my in ground figs.
No old  leaves laying around and I pull leaves off the bottom foot or so
of my 6-7 foot trees.
This allows air to circulate and not hold the extra moisture that rust seems to thrive on.

When

rotate
the

When

rotate
the

on a "yearly" basis to avoid insect resistance.

And it lists carbaryl AND malithion for insecticides and miticides.

Yes Brent, I use Sevin dust or Malathion liquid.
Its one or the other.
But they have been all I needed.
I've only had mites on a fig when it was just added to the orchard
comming from another source. Nobody's fault, it just happens.
Ive never had mites on established figs. Scales, yes.

http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/sevin-concentrate-p-1594.html

Liquid sevin.

Same active ingredient as the powder.
Looking at what it controls, your mite is on the list.

It does make sense the powder could control and get rid of leaf sucking mites.

Worked for me.
I rarely use a pesticide but I do dust if there is a noticeable problem.

True, anybody can just kill the raccoons.
Normally I would too. Easy to trap and kill.

Many people on this forum can not just go out and shoot the animal.

I'm just keeping them from my ripe figs for now.
They don't bother me any other time of year.

We have a small stream that runs through the back of the property
and they call it home back there.

I see them on my deer camera every year.

If this repelling does not work, I'll go at it another route.

thanks

I've shown pictures of my Carolina Reaper peppers.
I cant eat them but this is what I use on raccoons and deer.

I like to chop the pepper and add to boiling water till soft and mushy.
Strain and put in hand 1 quart sprayer.

Spray pepper juice on lower leaves.

It works!
At least so far.
I've only lost a hand full of figs but I'm getting a jump on them critters.

Here are 2 articles with similar ideas.

Blow torch with extension handle? The kind you can attach to a small LP tank?
Controlled burn, no extra damage.

I do not own one, but If I get yellow jackets that will be my weapon of choice.

Dennis, different pumps run at different PSI. Do you know what your pump is rated?

I can build the sprayer head assembly but was wondering at what pressure it maintains.

Different sprinkler heads could be used to get same effect.

Interesting design. I may build a mini.

"I still have the USDA officials name and number just in case you need it."

As do I.

Withdraw your bid, buy only from USA.
Even then check with the laws in the state you
are sending or receiving from.

So much better to be safe than sorry and not just waiting for that call or visit from USDA.
