I got the right limestone  and have added it to all of my trees and they are all good thanks for all your help your the Man

Here is the one i got fast acting look on the right side of the bag around the middle it says fast acting and its Pelletized right where it says easy to spread.

It was from a friend he has had figs for 50 years it came potted he said it was the lime fast acting he said not to use it, it brakes down to fast  and will burn the roots it was a 2gal pot and like i said he knows his stuff he uses chicken oysters shells he is from the old country .

Pot size was good for the size of the plant great mix Pro-Mix  HP and Pine Bark mulch from agway great stuff  rain water that's all i use rain water .
Bullet08 had some trouble with fast acting all so .
What brand is Belleclare Nursery using do you know ?

Do you have an agway near you they have a pine bark mulch its great right out off the bag hardly any white wood at all i think it was like $6.00 and change .

So help me out buddy i just used Pelletized Lime and it killed my Fig tree in 3 days your saying the picture from Bill's Fig page is not the stuff he is using any more and you say to use the Pelletized .
I am really lost here your telling me to use the stuff that just killed my tree?
The stuff i bought was Pelletized LawnLime fast acting the name of the brand is Soil Doctor 40 lbs from HD its the same stuff you just told some one to buy that is the one that kill my plants in 3 days i only put 10 little grans in the top of the pot i really hate to see any one els loose there plants from this stuff
the day after it started to kill the plant after watering by the 3rd day the plant was gone no life.
My be some one els can help, i do understand to check the PH first a lot of people on other post let you know how it works not to use fast acting Lime some say to use it some say do not use hydro Lime some say use it  some say limestone rocks and again some one say it will take the rest of my life to start working so being 60 not much time to grow figs lol.
Can you just use egg shells or shells they have Calcium or do you need more Magnesium all so ?
And if some one can put me on to the limestone they use and not killing there plants the name brand that would be great and maybe a picture of the bag or the box thanks for your time and God Bless.

I just bough a bag that some one had posted here up a few on this post it was the one from HD .
The name is Soil Doctor Pelletized LawnLime fast-acting 40 lbs bag it killed my fig tree in 3 days

The Right one to buy says Granular and on the back it says Dolomitic Limestone .
The bad one on the back says the same thing .
Here is the wright one to buy Bill's Figs uses this one just giving ya the heads up i do not want anybody to loose any Fig Trees like i just did .

I use Agway PBM  and love it great mix mostly all bark fines i mix it with Pro-mix HP .
What brand lime are you using i tried  HD lime the 40 lbs bag and it kill one of my Fig Trees it was Soil Doctor Pelletized LawnLime i put a very little on the top of the soil i know a lot of people use it but i am not so sure i will  
put lime in again they say it should be Dolomitic lime from near the ocean this brand is Dolomitic Lime but it all so said fast-Acting i am knew here so i don't know if it was wrong to put on top because i see a lot of people mix it in there mix .
Well again great job with the plant it looks great .

Hi All
I just bough 3 bales of Pro-Mix and they say they have lime in it i have read a lot of post on here about it and some say they put some in and some say they don't and some just uses right out of the bag and some add pine bark fines so i am trying to find the best way to pot my figs in some are ready to pot .
I was looking at some post on Fertilizers some go with 10-10-10- some 24-8-16 and so on so i guess it comes down to what Pro-Mix HP has in there mix the PH and what i am looking to do i don't want fast growing i would like to get about 2'' from each leaf they say figs grow fast anyway i would really like to here from you guys and gals using Pro-Mix HP and what you think on this mater .
I have been growing all kind of plants for over 50 years but figs are new to me so i will take the cotton out of my ears and put it in my mouth and see what you guys and gals have to say lol :)
I live in RI the weather is up and down all the time i don't know if i should put my new fig plants out side this year or keep them in but i have read they need to get cold for awhile so any help on that would be great .
I am from the old school and here a lot of old school here i here a lot of new school here and iam not to old to learn new tricks lol i have used some of the new school way and done well i put most of my cutting in 20 oz clear cups with wholes in the bottom in some in the sides all so i used Perlite 100 % i watered with Canna Aqua Vega A&B and my plants have done well thanks to RichinNJ post thank you Rich thing went great ,heat pad on 80 water everyday with the Canna A&B Grow light and man they took off i will post some pictures soon so after all the care i gave them i really want to have a fair chance at growing them out to be nice trees i am hooked big time and hell i love it :).
I do want to thank all the members who have already helped me big time and want to thank you all for being part of my life and being part of this Great site it is the best :).

Hi all 
I am new to this form i have always wanted to grow fig trees i live in zone 6a i have El Sal,Hardy Chicago had trouble with the rooting of this kind the bark fell off but the guy is sending me a plant so it worked out,Brown Turkey,Black Mission most are cutting that have rooted i was reading a lot on soils to use and it got crazy so many i was wondering what would be a good soil for my trees they will be in pots
