Hey Matt, seeing your name on the site is "Brooklynmatty" and you say there is no hydroponics stores in Long Island, I assume you are talking New York state. If so, I googled "hydroponic supplies, long island ny" and found 15 locations for them. I do not know if they sell Coir though.

Desert Dance, use tin snips to cut the mesh. Use 1/8" hardware cloth as the mesh. I also saw bird netting is available at Home Depot. Just Google "Bird Netting" to find sources

It accord to me that maybe for a netted cage you might be able to use the net pots used for rooting in the cloners.

I drive those semi low cost, U channel, steel fence post into the ground, and you do not need the big ones to do this. Then I set a 2x4 or simular piece of wood next to it and screw it in place. Now I have wood post as high as eight feet and from there I can form a lattice of rope from pole to pole, and use it to support the netting. I do the pole thing for my pole beans too. Set a couple up and stretch fence fabric or string between them and let the beans climb. I do this for my Tomatoes too. The steel post are easier to drive into my tough rocky soil.

As I said before, look it up. Forums are great to stimulate your thought process, but the information is limited to the knowledge of the members. There is lots of knowledge available from non members too. The internet is full of information and other opinions. here is an example

I would imagine one tarantula does not eat to many crickets, but here is info on raising them, and you could sell off the extras to pet stores or other people needing them or a bait shop.

One more thing, your box trap, extend the trigger plate. Also make a box holder for the bait and mount it high. Try a small baby food jar strapped high to the back of the trap, opening facing up. This will provide the aroma of the bait, but she will have to reach and work at getting to the bait, setting off the extended trigger.

look at these traps, I have used them and they work great. I have used the bucket trap and have never seen them become shy of it. Put a few inches of water in the bottom of the bucket with soap in it. Soap breaks the surface tension of the water so they drown faster.

The best thing about Baker Creek is all there seeds are GMO free.
The main farm is in Mansfield,Missouri.
They also have a place in Sonoma County, California and they bought the Comstock Ferre & Company seed center.

Subject: Gnats: when to call it an emergency? Replies: 28
Posted By: Bevman Views: 789

I started seeing the fungus gnats in the house and traced it down to a plant I brought in from being outside, but now they are in a couple other plants that never have been outside. I used the mosquito dunk product and it was working but my plant I had brought in was still looking poorly so I completely removed the fig tree from the soil mixture and examined the mixture. I found centipedes, Millepedes, 4 big white grubs, earthworms, and some other things moving that I did not know what they were. I cleaned my plant stem, that now barely had any roots left, and treated it like a large cutting, and put it in sterilized sand to start rooting it. It has been just a few days and is improving well. The contaminated soil I boiled to kill everything in it, and then strained it through a colander lined with cloth.
All the other plants I buried chunks of potatoe to draw the larva out for a few days, then treated them with the mosquito dunk water and then topped all my plants in my house with 1/2" to 1" of my sterilized sand. I also used old panty hose to cover the drain holes.
So if you have pots outside you bring in, they may contain all sorts of living things, good and bad.
Just like we sterlize our cutting instruments when we cut our plants, to make the cuttings, we need to sterilize our soil mixtures for our baby plants. There are many ways to sterilize our mixtures. Simple one is put in into a black trash bag and let it sit in the sun a couple days to get the temp up. make the layer thin in the bag. Other ways is to use chemicals, microwaves, ovens, boiling it, and with steam.

My first tasting of a fig was the snack cookie, my second was dried figs, liked them both, but they did not inspire me to grow them. Fall 2013, got to taste my first fresh FIGS, lots of them, and I fell in love with them and knew I had to start growing them.

Plants in the house have benefits too. They help clean the air of pollutants, take the CO2 out of the air and gives us back oxygen, adds moisture to the air, and if I did not have some green life to look at, I would go nuts in the winter.

I bought two trees from Gurney Seed company late April 2014. When they came to me I laughed at their 4 inch square pots and a twig not even as big as a pencil with 3 leaves. The one grew to 5 foot tall and gave me 24 figs by the end of the year.  So In my case, little, was a giant sleeping. Unfortunately, the figs did not get ripe in 2014 because most of the year was growth of the tree.

Look for "On Demand hot water recirculator pump". This type system uses your existing plumbing lines. It takes the cool water from your hot water line and puts it back into the cold water line. The pump runs for just a minute or two instead of for hours like standard recirculating systems.

Welcome Alma.
I do not think anyone will throw stones, for most of us have been there. I have eaten Fig Newton cookies and dried figs but it was the fall of 2013 before I ate my first fresh fig (@ 60 1/2 years old) and I knew I wanted more.

I have not done this to fig trees but have to other plants that were having a hard time going to sleep. I put lots of Ice around them to chill the soil and trunk. After that I applied a heavy mulch so the soil would not warm back up.
I have also done the opposite to plants and that is dump warm water on the soil to warm it and then covered with mulch to keep it warm, to start an early awaking.
I have also piled the snow and ice on top of the area I have Tulips growing and covered it in straw to delay their bloom. results were, everyone else were done blooming and mine were just starting.
People, and I, do this type of things to flowers like Amarilys to awaken them early or delay awaking, so we control when they bloom.
Soil temperature plays an important part in a plants life cycles.

My link sort of works. It takes you to the right place but for some reason it adds the characters  %C2%A0 . If you erase those and refresh the page comes up. Your page says the same thing as the one I linked. So it is my opinion that if you prune a tree for Breva production, it will do fine for main crop production since they grow on the new wood that grows on the old wood.
