Thanks for the replies!!!

I did a bit more investigation, and I am pretty certain that this is a Green Ischia because:
  • The overall character of the fruit (small eye, pyramid shaped, berry taste, etc.)
  • The shape of the tree (quite compact and dense leafed).
  • The shape of the leaves
  • The tree is from Dave Wilson, which carries both Ischia and Panachee.  So it is very likely a mislabel.
I might still get a Panachee at some point, because they are just so darn CUTE!!!  :-)

Last year, I bought a Panachee fig tree from a nursery.  This year, it's producing a few figs (yay!).  However, I notice right away that the figs were not striped, instead they were dark green.  As they ripened, they became a pale green.  The tree itself is a rather vigorous grower

Below are pictures (sorry for the 1st photo being so blurry).  The fig was quite sweet and tasted of berry.

Does anyone have any guess as to what variety I actually have?  I am guessing Desert King...

I used 32oz Japanese ramen to go cups and drilled drainage holes.  I also made 2 cuts down the side of the container so that I can easily open them later on.  The cups were then filled with a mix of perlite and Pro-Mix (with biofungicide and mycorrhizae).

The cutting that I got from generous members on this forum (thank you Danny and Aaron!!!) were inserted into the cups.

The cups are now resting in the plastic bin inside the house.  I will provide updates later on in this thread.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to give me suggestions and encouragements!

I will not be planting directly in the ground because I only have 2 spots available in the ground.  All the cuttings will be in ziploc bags in the fridge, I will root in batches (using different strategies to see which one works).  I will keep the cups out of direct sunlight until I see good root and leave development, then I will gradually expose the cups to more sun light.

I will keep a photo journal when the time comes and share my progress here.  Fingers crossed!!!

I have gotten/will be getting some fig cuttings from generous members in this forum.  Since this is going to be my first experience with rooting anything, I'd like to first try the simplest method -- which is to directly root in a cup.

I have no heat pad and I have no grow light, but I do live in sunny California (where even bird poo can grow into a tree, lol!).  So in March, when we start our tomato garden, I will take advantage of what nature offers and just put the cups out in a sunny spot (will bring them in after sunset so that the critters don't knock the cups over).

In the cups, I plan to use Pro-Mix BX with Biofungicide+Mycorrhizae (I could not find a low cost source for HP).  I have read that I should mix in additional perlite (2:1), so I'll do that.

Any other advice?

I have a mature "giant fuyu" tree in the yard.  Pm me if you are interested, and you'll need to tell me what to do as I have never made any cuttings before.

Subject: OT - Tankless water heaters Replies: 29
Posted By: MnMsMom9902 Views: 932

Our house has a Rheem tankless water heater, installed about 8 years ago.  Our model can produce enough hot water to simultaneously run 2 major source and 1 minor source (for example, 2 showers along with kitchen sink).  I really love it.  But there are definitely pros and cons.

Pros:
  • Never runs out of hot water  <-- #1 for me
  • Saves energy as there is no water reservoir that needs to be constantly heated.
  • Because there is no water reservoir, there is minimal corrosion, so the tankless should last longer than the traditional style.
Cons:
  • It will not take less time for you to get hot water, since there is no reservoir it will take about a min for the water to get hot.
  • The computer chip in the waterheater broke on us.  But it was covered by warrenty, so we had it replaced without cost.

Here in the San Jose area, Summer Wind Nursery just put out a bunch of Dave Wilson's bareroot cherry trees for sale (including multi-variety graft).  In the Fresno area, it looks like Riverside Nursery and Belmont Nursery also carry Dave Wilson's cherry trees.

When you get a grafted cherry, you can look for one that is grafted with more than one variety.  Then you don't need to plant another tree for pollination.

I just want to thank Harvey, Scott (even though he will not be back in this thread), and other forum members that have helped me be more aware of how to better determine a legit eBay seller versus a scammer.  I know that it will never be a 100% sure thing, but I do feel I am more educated now.

Brian, I have relatives in the San Joaquin Valley area growing cherries trees, and they get a good size crop.  I think in Fresno you should get enough cold days to meet the cold requirement.  This year, however, is unusually warm.

Are there two types of planting/hardiness zones?  According to here, I am 9B.  But according to here, I am 8B.  Is one of these types more commonly used?
