same thing going on at my house    I have some cuttings that sent out leaves and then just wilted up    some that sent out a little bud and croaked   curious as to why in a bag of cuttings some after being potted did well and some did not    I checked   no roots so no chance   I just dumped some cuttings after waiting forever.    Life too short to pine over sticks   LOL

be careful telling where you get your cuttings from overseas.   Nice ....guys from USDA came to my house and took my sumaki fig .   ebay tells them every time you buy something from non approved source out of the country. and they probably read this forum.

Dave    Shoes are off limits because they are a necessity of life and they make you feel so goooood.  I like to open the door and see all their little happy faces.    Admitted that I don't have as many as I used too  100+  because I dressed up and wore heels every day.

that was a wonderful looking meal you had on the grill   looking forward to having some figs to cook.  L0L    but poor ole Joyce doesnt eat anything that bahs or hops:  rabbit, sheep, frogs, lamb.     and peanut butter, goat cheese, or brussel sprouts     I didnt' feed peanut butter to my little kiddle either.   Can't stand the smell or taste.     So we ate jelly sandwich sans peanut butter.    Now she is a Mommy and no peanut butter for her little boy either.   My husband eats the stuff but I leave the room.  Ick.

cute picture      sometimes cuttings will root  put out leaves and just croak.  I have never taken apart the  container to examine the reason   just dumped the thing in the garbage   maybe I will examine next time.   I have had several cuttings of the same thing  did exactly the same thing for each   and have them side by side.   Never 100 percent success.

oh boy that is the first time I have seen a "June Bug" since I was a kid where I lived in North Carolina   we also did the bug on a string thing that I was taught by my uncle who was in his 60s   you need an armadillo to eat the grubs in the yard.

mean neighbor ladies just worry themselves to death.  I could tell you some great tales of my next door neighbor in Michigan.    My favorite story is the day she came out side into my yard to complain about the noise my snow blower was making.   I pretended I didn't see her and shifted the chute right at her.  She looked like a Yeti.    I looked up and said  "In my yard, in my snow."     I didnt see her for about a week after that.

fignatic   could it be a papaya?   That would be logical.     bird could have perched up there or there could have been a nest up there in the past with enough debris and droppings to start a plant.

very nice Mike   Great find    All we have in "Farmer's Markets" here is produce which they buy from wholesalers and try to pass it off as farm grown by them.    Duh  I can look at the boxes.   You have tapped into a great source.

Hi and welcome Steve   this is just a fun and great place to be.   Everyone is truly glad you joined and look forward to hearing more from you in the future.   No question is a dumb question and nobody will be mean unkind or unhelpful here.   By helping one another we help ourselves be better figgers.   Mistakes will be made and figs will croak but we all keep trying.

hmm never heard of the gas thing.  I thought their mounds were pretty deep but I am no bug expert.   I did spray lighter fluid on a web caterpiller nest in a tree a while back and whoofed it away.   of course  hose was handy

Fire ants are a horrendous species  They swarm on you when you blunder into their nest and their bites are agonizing and the aftermath lasts forever.   Destroy any mound you may find and do not let them spread.  Chemicals are the only answer for them.

I can assure you that the USDA and ebay work hand in hand.  USDA will be very nice when they come but they will take your cuttings etc.   You may slip by them now but they will come.   Alas I said goodbye to my Sumaki fig last year to the Smiling Man.  Don't bother   Wait  save your money and buy from forum members.   You will get a better deal because your plant will be healthy and true and forum peeps stand behind their goods.  :)

waiting for your figs is like making yeast bread.   You know its going to be outstanding but not instant.    And nobody phones Santa and asks him to come a couple weeks early.  LOL    So hot and humid here I am glad you are running a little behind.  Keep up the good work my friend and "fig elf".

Oh dennis   I am worried for you.  Please keep on top of this      when it comes to snake it is good to be a "Wuss" and run for help.   I know everyone here rooting for you and worried.     My husband used to bring me home black snakes when he was into running.   Carried a small scuba gear sack.   Blackies   great mousers and keep away other snakes.     when you go into yard around your plants take a broom handle and poke around.  If you have puppy or kitty   try to keep them out of the yard for a while.   It would be helpful if you told your next door neighbors to be on the look out also.   Check around rocky areas and porches.    snakes can be anywhere.   Even at your local Homie Depot in the garden section.   No Kidding.   When we see a rattler or coral around here we try to kill it and if gets away to fast, we put alert in our neighborhood newsletter or our online site.

the squirrels eat on the bars and take some back to their nest to die.   I have never seen dead squirrel in my yard.    I also have a large nest on back of property that is home to JoJo the kestrel hawk and his mate.    I understand the concern  but in my case I have had no problem.

try my tried and true  "Just One Bite" bars   I wire them in an orchid basket and hang them in a nearby tree  or you could wire them in a pot.   bye bye rodents.  I loathe squirrels.

well don't feel like the Lone Ranger having your fig cuttings taken by the USDA   they are notified by ebay each time you purchase something from "the forbidden zone"   they are very nice and polite but believe me they do a bang up job.   They got my sumaki cuttings and a golden mango seed from thailand?     I never unwrapped either of them   it was that quick.
