GSMeyer -

If you are talking about Craigslist ad for Pom trees in Plano - I already checked those out.  They are not edibles one.  Too sour and small to do any good.  The plants are quite tall - over 10 feet.

I heard Poms need time to establish before fruit.  I bought 2 bare-root from Womack Nursery last month - they are about 3-4 feet tall and plenty of roots.  Owner Larry-Jim told me these would still need a year or 2 before fruiting.  I donot expect any fruit this year even though they are good 4 feet tall.

Thank you.

I lived in Toronto, Ontario 4 years ago.  Back then - I didn't know about OR care about figs.  This would been a good deal with so many fig trees in 1 shot.

Thank you all and especially JoAnn for the offer of cuttings.  Will gladly send you a Priority mail stamp if I decide to collect some cuttings.  Assume you are in California (Zone 9) - the tree is not dormant yet!

I found a local Craigslist ad for Pom plants - these are in the grounds and has fruited.  I may go see and dig up if possible.  Anyone knows - if mature pom tree (6 - 7 feet tall) can be uprooted and grown back ok?  Right now - I only have 2 cuttings and what I found out - they will come to fruit bearing size in another 3 years :-(

Thank you

Has any one tried rooting pomegranate!

I had luck so far.  Last year - I collected 2 cuttings from a unknown pom in the neighborhood.  Later I found out this one is non-fruit variety (flower only).  Both cuttings rooted well in the ground and grown about 2 feet+ tall.  This year - 2 months ago - a collected 2 cuttings of a fruiting pom (unknown variety - bought from Home Depot as I was told) and both leafed out (1 in ground and other in the 16 oz cup. Not sure if those have roots yet).  Just 2 weeks ago - someone works with me gave me several cuttings from her fruiting pom and a ripe fruit to taste (unknown variety but from a reputable nursery) and I just planted them in the ground.

I use Dyna-Gro K-L-N rooting hormone (3 drops in  16 oz water and soak the cuttings overnight).   Seems to me - poms are easy to root.  Bad part is it will take 2-3 years to fruit from cuttings.  I like to hear from you about your experience about pomegranate.

Thank you.

I have grown Kiowa for the past 3 years.  Bought as tissue-culture plant from WellSpring Nursery (Ebay) along with Natchez.  Kiowa is extremely hardy in zone 7b/8a.  It produces heavily and berries are large - but sour compare to Natchez and Navajo.  The plant grows prolific and shoots up sucker like mad.  I grew few more plants just from cuttings and if you are into propagation - you can make hundreds in 2 years just from one plant.  It is thorny so not so easy to go around a pick fruits without spilling some blood.  One off-side as I mentioned is the sourness.   So, this year - I will pulling it off and put more Natchez because this one is also vigorous and fruits well.

I tried Natchez blackberry in Dallas area and very satisfied.  Fruits are large and abundant.  No maintenance required besides making a trellis so canes can stay upright with fruits weight.  No insects or disease I have noticed.  Birds are a problem and I tried with net and have some success.  Natchez is selected as Texas Superstar.  I have Kiowa which has extremely large fruit - but sour.  Also has thorns which I donot like.  Besides these - I have Navajo - the fruits are small but sweet and produce late in the season.

Celeste it is.  I have two trees - still very young (less than 2 feet tall).  Grew from cuttings last year.  I am seeing few figlets coming out since last week.  I see other Celeste in DFW area already have riped fruit.  I guess because it's age - I may not get edible fruit this year.

Hello JoAnn

The LSU Purple cuttings I have from you are growing strong with lots of roots.  I wonder if I can get some figs this year at all.

Your landscape is quite interesting will all the vegetables in the mix.  I have a fig tree in the front yard - I am thinking of growing some herbs around the trunk.

Folks - thanks for the input.  Richie - I think you are right about the Fig#2 as Brown Turkey.  Last year it had 3 fruits - as I remember now without photo - those resemble like BT.  These never riped even after frost and fell off after shriveled.

Fig#4 had few Breba as the size of a pea early this season - but fell off after the hard frost in Late march.  Does Brunswick/Magnolia has Breba?

  Thanks

Hello fellow Fig guru's -

Hope you can identify these fig trees.  Fig 1 and 2 are grown from cuttings from the neighbor's trees.  They don't know what these are and I found them growing in their front yards.  These are planted straight to the ground as cuttings in feb/march 2015.  Fig 4 was local purchase as small rooted cutting that seller collected from her mother's tree.  This was planter in Sep 2014.  Fig 2 had 3 fruit last fall and none riped even after 3 months. Fig 1 and 4 had not fruited yet!

I am in Zone 7b DFW.  Thank you.

We had a frosty night 2 weeks ago.  I have 3 fig trees that had few breba crops. Some leaves were burnt after that frost.  And now I noticed the breba's are shriveled and falling off.  They were very tiny.

I am in Dallas area.
