I imagine because eBay doesn't want to shut down the goose the lays their golden eggs.... They have been advised that this and his friends are scammers and been provided proof as well as complaints after the fact but ebay rigs their system such that a savvy scammer, such as this person and his ring of thieves are, can still manage a decent satisfaction rating via fake purchases and thus lure unsuspecting buyers in.... Run an advanced search on this seller in ebay and limited it to sold items and see just how much activity this one seller is has... ebay makes lots of money from him and his associates sales...

Seriously Ross... I am disappointed.... your post is not up to your usually high standards. Nothing wrong with what ThaiFig is running up the flag pole.... ThaiFig ususally provides excellent instructional grow guidance without coming off as a smartass. You are quite tech savy so you don't need to be told that if you don't want to participate on a thread, you simply don't click into it...

@TorontoJoe Words cannot fully convey the level of hatred i have for fungus gnats... To give you an idea of how tough they can be here's this: I had a number of 32oz cups that I set up to root some nice cuttings. I put 1.5" of perlite in the bottom of the 32oz container that has numerous bottom holes as well as numerous aeration holes all around at various heights... I put in a lite rooting mix as recommended by the folks on this form and then after putting the cutting into the mix, I topped it all off with an inch of perlite. I then take an extra large coffee filter and put it into the bottom of another 32 oz container and put the rooted cutting container into the one with the filter such that the filter surrounds the bottom of the cutting container leaving a small 1" gap between the 2 containers to catch and liquid flowing down from the rooted cutting. In the classic 3 cup method, I then topped the rooted  cutting contained with another 32oz to act as a humidity bin. the top has several air holes to allow for some humidity to escape.

Well, the other day I was checking the cups to look for roots and what do i see? Fungus gnats had gotten in between the two cups and had actually drilled through the damp coffee filter and into the bottom of the rooting cup. I don't think they made it past the 1.5" of perlite in the bottom of container but looking closely, it was evident that they at least tried... There was no liquid in the gap between the two containers but there were numerous gnat bodies laying there... I was shocked as I had not thought that the gnats would find their way into the bottom container and try to go in from the bottom... I replaced the filter with a fresh one and haven't seen any evidence of a new attach but I remain vigilant... By the way... I have been watering exclusively with a gnatrol mix but now have upped the firepower and am using a sample of Riptide sent to me by a generous forum member....

If historical posts are to be believed, there is only one original source for the BB10 which is an unknown but considered high quality cultivar and that is Dan. Dan had discovered the plant which was likely either a sport / mutation of a known or unknown variety or the result of natural pollination / cross between two naturally occurring figs in the discovery area. Regardless, the BB10, as it was named, was, according to his own assessment, above and beyond in terms of quality. How the BB10 came out of Dan's private holding and into wider distribution is unknown but once the genie was out of the bottle several more folks acquired it. One of those second line folks then made it available to others and became the common source for the plants and cuttings now finally being made available to other enthusiasts on ebay. The current offerings on ebay are by Wills from OurFigs and by Dave who is a member here and on OurFigs. Both are highly respected and trustworthy sources of figs and there are not many that would dispute the authenticity of the figs that they are providing on ebay. There are a few others that also have the BB10, including "pukzpukz" who is a member of both fig forums as well as on Rafed's FB and who recently posted that he will be doing a benefit auction for a BB10 plant from his own inventory in late winter as well as making cuttings available some time after that. I believe that Pukzpukz also posted that his source for the BB10 was the same as the others. Pukzpukz also frequently sells figs and other plants on ebay and is very involved in the LSU fig research and development program; I believe that all of the LSU varieties, either formally released or still under review are his specialty. In any case, those are the three sources of BB10 that I am aware of; I am one of the actively engaged and interested bidders on ebay for this variety as I have no qualms about the authenticity of the cultivar and consider the sellers to be of the highest order and trust worthiness. There are F4F members who sell varieties on ebay, including BM, whose names are synonymous with value, integrity, quality and generosity; we all know who they are and we look forward to their auctions and bid on their inventory without concern, I personally have bought quite a bit from them myself, these BB10 sellers are on the same order as far as I am concerned.

"I easily had 2500-3000 cuttings myself this year"

Wow Aaron! I am amazed and awed. That is not a small number of cuttings! How the heck does one person manage such an undertaking? I am watching the threads documenting James "Greenfin" managing his undertaking on F4F and it seems that his efforts are just confirming my own thinking that that is a full time job to go through the end to end process.... Where does one put 3000 1 gallon figs after up potting? My pantry won't hold that many...   :-)

Bump...

I was looking through old posts and noticed this earlier posting on the Black Beauty 10 fig... Not sure how many are aware but forum member "Dave" has an eBay listing for cuttings of this variety active right now but ending in less than 6 hours:

Dave also has other desirable cuttings posted, a number of which I have picked up myself so US based folks interested in rare fig varieties should take a look...

Dave is a long time and generous forum member and trusted seller and his cuttings are excellent quality and value...

I think that James is a straight shooter who is working very hard to climb the mountain that WE built for him when he made such an attractive offer for 2016 and compounded it with offers for 2017. He could / should have set a limit to the offer originally so that it did not get out of hand and it surely MUST have gotten out of hand since he is currently growing THOUSANDS of cuttings/rootlings in an effort to deliver and not disappoint anyone. He will get it done but he is fighting a real battle with weather and many other factors we can only guess at when trying to raise so much wood for distribution...

Frankly, considering the price point of his offerings, I would and have changed my thinking so that I am going after varieties from alternate sources as my primary method of acquisition and considering the order for plants submitted to James as secondary or backup plants when they come. Heck, most folks ordered the hard to get / rare varieties as rooted plants anyway and everyone knows that you can always use a backup plant for those hard to acquire / rare varieties to account for unexpected losses....  Just my own way of thinking so that I am not constantly looking for updates to delivery....

Joe... Just to be clear, I am not advocating doing 1 node cuttings... I have done 2 nodes but usually consider three a minimum. There are numerous more experienced forum members that have the ability to turn each node into a viable plant or cut each node and chip graft them onto good root stock to produce plants. I wouldn't even try... Best of luck...

What is the top of a cutting and what is the bottom? I am just playing around but if you think about it every node has the potential to throw roots... that is what we depend on even with 1 node cuttings (there is such a thing). If you take a stick with 6 nodes and cut just at the bottom of each node to create 6 pieces you now have 6 pieces with a 'top' and a 'bottom' which might root even though the original 'top' node on the 6 node stick was where you weren't expecting roots to form... All relative, I think but what do I know...   :-)

I have found that although I have no issue eating honey per se, buckwheat honey definitely does result in a 'fuller' feeling after consuming it. Then again, I only consume honey in Camomile Tea or in Italian desserts such as Struffoli. Camomile in and of itself is so effective at soothing stomach problems and indigestion that I certainly have never experienced any negative side effects from the honey I put in it. On the Struffoli side,... well as any Italian knows, its hard to feel ill eating Struffoli....
