What is left?

Just put in my order for some cuttings and really liked your website, very neat layout !


I ordered 4 types of cuttings and can't wait to get them started with some other recent cuttings I got on vacation.

I'm surprised how many people are filing PayPal disputes against me over not yet getting their cuttings.  My trees aren't dormant yet, folks! 

I've tried to be very clear, both in this thread and on my site.  Here's the text from the top of my site:

Well, I'll be happy to buy any Nero 600m and Salce from these disputers. Didn't know much about them before they sold out!

This is tons of work and shame on folks for filing disputes without reading the T&C and without PMing James (Greenfin) first.  Let's be realistic here.

You are not likely to get your figs until the end of November through the end of Dec.  It takes time for trees to go dormant and they haven't even started yet.  It takes time to take cuttings and 5x longer if you do a good job of keeping the varieties separate.  It takes time to cut the large branches into shippable but viable cuttings.  Then it takes a lot of time to select a fair variety of the cuttings you have to put in each box getting all the varieties straight and giving each person different types of cuttings (tip, older wood, etc) to keep things fair.  Then all those packages need to be sealed.  It'll take 2-3 hours just to seal all those packages.  He's unlikely to get them done all at once so it's multiple drives to the PO.  For James it might be 30 miles away - he's rural.  Just the process of getting cuttings ready for shipping takes many hours.  Getting them sorted into packages takes several hours more.

What does he get paid for his time?  Nothing.  Gas?  Nothing.

What are you paying for the cuttings?  A fraction of what you'd have to pay otherwise.

And some of you have the nerve to file disputes?

Maybe I'm getting old and cranky but I'd instantly refund your money and block you from all further transactions if you did that to me.

James, be careful of shipping.  The first year I sent out cheap cuttings I lost over $100 because packages got lost and I charged just slightly under what the PO charged me.  Despite tracking #s I replaced all packages that got lost.  In my opinion you should be charging actual shipping rounded up+$2.  I took photos of everyone's address and tracking # and PMed it to the person.  Saved a lot of answering PMs  :)

Amen R cantor ! Time is money and money is time. I highly doubt he is recovering even a fraction of his investment on the cuttings process, let alone the planting and yearly care of the trees.

It's a blessing that this forum has members so generous.

You must be really savvy with computer stuff.  I can't be tempted any more, but that is a cool way to sell your cuttings!  Applause!

I was tempted by one, but the decree came down hard!  "NO MORE FIG TREES!"  So I love what I have.

Crazy people filed disputes anyway. Even if unclear of the shipping dates. Everyone I've talked to and dealt with so far are more than nice and generous. Now if it was spring and I hadn't received them I might be wondering. But I have no worries that I'll get my cuttings. I don't even check the thread for info on when you'll ship cuz I don't doubt that I'll get them. Only reason I check back is to see if more varieties have become available so I can buy more. I agree with rcantor, shame on them. If you cut and ship mine last I won't complain. Can't beat the price and selection, especially for a newbie like me. Thanks for doing this and please let us know when the rest become available. I really want some of those :D

Agreed, I'd def rather have dormant cuttings rather than fresh summer cuttings. I have had better luck. Lignified wood always roots better for me. I've had almost 0 success with green cuttings thus far but I'm just learning a lot of the ways you guys have found to work. Hey GreenFin, are you keeping any kind of updated list of what people ordered? I've placed 3 orders so far but now I can't remember what and how many I ordered. No biggie or anything if not, just curious. If you are and you get a little free time and don't mind, can you PM the info? If you need my PayPal ID let me know. Thanks again for everything.

UPDATE --

We finally got frosted a couple of nights ago, so I'm anticipating clipping and shipping in about 2 weeks.  That'll give the trees a bit of time to lose their leaves, while still allowing me to get them pruned before we get any major freezes that damage the wood. 

Hello, I guess I was late to the party, but I just ordered a few of the remaining variety cuttings you have left. I look forward to receiving them and watching them grow. Thanks for offering these. The only fig plants I have is a small brown turkey cutting and an unknown variety cutting. They are still alive and growing so no complaints.

We finally got a light frost a few nights ago, so I'm planning to start pruning this coming weekend and then ship the cuttings early next week.  I'll send tracking info when the packages are in the mail :)
