2015 Season - Douglassville,PA

Thanks for the video, Nick.  Mine have been losing some brebas too and in a couple cases all I did was move the tree near to a brick wall on the south side of the house.  The temperature difference was enough for a couple brebas to do what yours did.  Your Ischia Black has a lot of brebas!  Is IB known to be a productive breba fig?

My first ripe breba of 2015, from my Black Ischia.

Ok tonight's experiment was homemade fish hydrolysate! Theresa and I fish Lake Ontario almost every weekend and always have a lot of fish carcasses.

Hopefully, in about 3 weeks, it will be ready to try out!

Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work

Hi,
You beat my stinky water barrel with that one ! I use dried weeds that I put in the barrel . Some plants are known to have properties as fertilizer or against bugs.
Stinging needle, mint ...  are some I use. But I'll use any weed that passes by . I just let them dry on the floor for a week - to kill them and not propagate them with each watering.

JD I imagine that smells like my garage a week after I cut the grass!

Tonight I picked a Melanzana main crop...

VdB vs Negronne

Here is another pair of Negronne (left) and VdB (right). I picked the Negronne early, when it looked closer to the VdB.

Great comparative analysis, Nick. I have always believed, although similar, these are two different varieties. I do think the ripening time variable may be at work here. I think the negronne was definitely more ripe and as we wait for a few extra days, the flavors really start to develop. I've had some mighty fine vdb brebas, too, especially when they are dead ripe. It will be interesting as you ripen more, if you can find two " identically ripe" Breba ( vdb vs negronne) what the results will be. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks.

Thanks Biil. I'm finding it is tough to get them the same ripeness as the Negronne seems to ripen "more fully". I have to pick the VdB much more wrinkled to be at the same ripeness as the Negronne. I picked this Negronne barely hanging today to try and get them close.
