So I want to try something new... my greenhouse is now being streamed live! This is more for when I am away, so I can keep an eye on things. I use one of these netcams for my aquarium as well. I think you need to make a free account prior to viewing.
http://netcam.belkin.com/accept-invite-us-prod.html?token=Tnx1tr3I62889310494659&locale=US%7Cen
If anyone checks it out, let me know if the link works! I use my smartphone app, so I haven't tried it on a PC yet.

Great, now I'm going to have to learn how to cut the feed when I poach your trees. Thanks for making it harder on me, Nick. Seriously, that is a cool idea. I am going to sign in and have a look. Not like I'm casing the greenhouse, though.
Edit: It said the invitation has expired. I hope it wasn't something I said...

Interesting approach! I've thought about this kind of an app to monitor home temps when I'm away. I also got an "invitation expired" message.

Hmmm... the sharing function is kinda whacky. It seems I have to add your usernames or it times out. Shoot me your username if you are interested and I will try adding them as "cam friends".
And Bill, you are welcome over anytime for cuttings, just water when you are done :)

It seems there must be a special page to register. The Netcam home page has only a log-in portal.

Man oh man, I think I need a bigger greenhouse!
I am quickly running out of room, forcing me to play favorites! I have enough room for one or two more larger trees and will need to choose between Nero600M, VdB, Negronne, Green Ischia, Sals G, Bifere, Mission, Italian, and a few others.
The figs in the greenhouse are budding and beginning to leaf quickly.

I have two new varieties to add to my fig family; Abebereia and Bourjasotte Grise.
My two Black Madeira cuttings are going strong and already have large leaves. I have them adjusting to room humidity now.
Oh and my Sodus Sicilian is leafing out finally!

Hey Nick I finally got my UCD package, it was 1 CdD white and 3 Panachee. As expected! Good luck with your cuttings and trees-I up-potted a BM cutting today, everything has been slow this year, but I think they know spring is around the corner. I will up-pot a Spanish fig tomorrow, and another Spanish fig late next week! My greenhouse trees are also breaking bud, but very slowly, even though the heater is on in there.

Very frustrated... it was time to raise my lights up a few inches before the figs started hitting them. While raising them, one of the chains broke causing the light to come crashing down onto my figs. It of course landed on my Vasilika Sika and Longue d'Aout.
It broke the main growth of the VS. It was still connected, so I tried to put it back in place with a bit of wood glue. I have never tried or heard of grafting with wood glue, but we will see what happens...

Rafael, glad to hear you got some nice cuttings! I also up potted a BM today! I now have one in a 25g SIP and one in a normal pot. So we will see which does better this year.

Hi Nick,
Thank you so much for the cuttings! I wrapped some of them in parafilm and rooted them directly. Others, I put into a container with moist coir. I'm curious to see which method will root faster.

Never give up!
Tonight showed me that you should never give up on your cuttings. I had given up on my only Maltese Beauty cutting and had not been able to bring myself to throw it out. It had originally put out a small fig, which I pulled off, no visible roots, and then it withered.
Nearly three months later, I finally decided to throw it out. Much to my amazement, when I picked the cup up, there were healthy roots on the bottom!
I also love my Belkin Netcam setup in my greenhouse. I can check in on the figs, temps, and even critters at night with the night vision.

Well, I'll be darned. It looks like wood glue actually worked to save the one limb of my vasilika sika!
This is by no means conclusive, but I had two cuttings have small branches break when my grow light fell. One on my Longue d'Aout and one on my Vasilika Sika. Both broke about halfway through. The LdA I pushed back together and left alone. The VS I pushed back together and wood glued. The LdA shriveled and dried out. The VS is starting to put out a new leaf!

Well, I must say I still believe cutting propagation in a potting mix is a better method than perlite as long as you do not over water. This Col de Dame Gris cutting is helping reinforce that thought in my mind.
The greenhouse is amazing! I am probably two months ahead of last year.
The amount of brebas on the trees are amazing as well. I am not sure how many will ripen, but there are a ton of them.
The webcam is still working out well. It was driving me nuts yesterday though as I was stuck at work and saw the greenhouse was over 100F inside. I will have to hook the exhaust fan back up this weekend.

I am enjoying your pictures and reading your updates. As someone who first started rooting fig cuttings a few years back and failed, and currently rooting some with different methods this go around, it is very helpfull and inspiring to see your shared methods and struggles. I am always learning. I have breba envy right now!! Wow!! Good going!!

Thanks for the fig tour! Have you found coir to be any better/worse than sphagnum moss? I've had pretty good luck with coir, but this is my first winter rooting cuttings so I've got nothing to compare against.

I haven't found much of a difference in success rate. The major drawback to moss is the roots get tangled if you let them grow too long: solution is to move them to cups before they get too long. Drawback with coir is it is difficult to check for roots without disturbing them much.
I think either method is fine, personally I find moss easier, but will probably continue to play with both.

Most of them are 55g barrels cut in half. The SIP water area takes up a bit at the bottom, so probably ~20g of soil. The dolly makes moving them MUCH easier! The big one is probably 70g and is very heavy.

All the trees are back inside except for the Conadria. I covered it with a fitted bed sheet...
Unfortunately, the wind blew that off in under an hour. I covered it with a patio table cover and ratchet strapped it down.
Checking in on the greenhouse, things are taking off. My Sodus Sicilian is going gangbuster with more than six new branches from each branch with over 18" of growth.
The brebas on the Black Ischia are pretty big and entering that "do nothing" stage before they ripen.
The cuttings in the office are doing well also. The Sodus Sicilian cutting still has only one leaf, but is rooting out nicely.
Can you guess who this breba belongs to?

My first main crop fig of 2015 formed today! It was on my Ischia Black.
I also started my first airlayer of the year, again on my Ischia Black.
There was a branch, growing under another branch and low to the pot, so it was a good candidate.
First I used a razor blade to score the bark all the way around the branch. Then an inch up, I scored it again. I carefully pulled the outer layer of bark off, creating a ring around tge branch.
Then I cut the opening off a soda bottle, a line down the side of the bottle, and a hole in the bottom slightly larger than the branch. I then slid the bottle onto the branch.
I filled the bottle with some extra seed starting mix I had.
The I used duct tape to keep the bottle closed so the soil wouldn't fall out.
Lastly, I covered the bottle with aluminum foil to help it not get super hot when the sun hits it.
The last step was to put a wood chip between the bittle and tree trunk. This will ensure there is enough space to get pruners in and cut the airlayer off later.

I did some up potting tonight. Take a look at the roots on this Nero 600M that was in a SWP!
This pic was taken after the bottom bucket was removed. The water resevoir was literally filled with roots which were submerged. I had to chop them off to get the tree out of the bucket, so hopefully it isn't too affected. This tree was rooted in January 2014.

I think the greenhouse is getting too hot. Some of the brebas are turning colors before swelling.
The airlayer I placed on the Ischia Black last month is beginning to root as well.
The Barnisotte brebas are taking FOREVER to ripen! Hopefully soon.
