2016 Fig Season in Maryland

Greetings all. Been a little while since I've posted, but the fig collection flourishes here in Maryland. No real over winter issues this year even though I housed all my containerized figs in our unheated garage. Had about 35 trees in pots in our garage and only lost one. My in-ground Hardy Chicago and Celeste trees have done well. All survived our MD winter, cold wet Spring and are all alive and pushing lots of new growth. I have a few newly propagated Celeste and Hardy Chicago trees, all doing well.

My biggest and most satisfying start is my Black Madeira. Started from a UC Davis cutting, two years ago, it's now a real, thriving tree!

The last few years I had our trees on our deck, but they really took over! This Spring, a new semi-permanent location on our driveway. One advantage is that they get full sun from morning 'til evening. Just need to reconfigure the drip irrigation system I had in place.

Here are a few pix of the motley crew of trees on our driveway.

Here are a few more pix of our in-ground fig hedge of Hardy Chicago and Celeste; newly started cuttings, and the Black Madeira.

They all look great, Mark. Happy to hear your winter was kind, and that your Black Madeira is starting to thrive.

Nice collection of grate tasters. Never can have too many black madeira figs. Nice mix of different shape leaves too

Thanks guys, appreciate the quick responses.

Looks like a nice collection - thanks for sharing the pics.  I imagine you are getting a "reputation" in the neighborhood! :)

Things are starting to look good here now. We've picked a few tasty figs, but so far our Negronne is in first place.

Is the Negronne fig a breba?  I plan to pick my one and only VdB breba today or tomorrow.

Congrats.

Some of my trees brebas are just starting to swell.

Beautiful trees. The Madeiras look like they're ready to do some serious growing. Congrats on the great results.

Greetings. Figs are all ripening now providing us with some tasty daily treats. Celeste, Hardy Chicago, Black Yugoslav, Carini, Ghosh, Black Mission, Longue d' Aout, and a few more, including the Negronne.
