Fig Friends!

I will be holding a gathering of all interested in growing figs at my home on September 9th. The intent is to gather together to meet others interested in fig growing, to share knowledge and experience, and have some fun. Of course spouses, family etc are welcome if they can stand the focus on figs!

We will open the doors at noon and start off with lunch by 12:30 or 1:00, then have the rest of the afternoon for sharing. My home is very near the Irwin exit of the PA Turnpike, just East of Pittsburgh. I will provide directions to anyone who plans to come, PM or email me to be included in sending out directions.

As we did last year, I plan to order some pizzas, and we will provide coffee, tea, soft drinks, and of course fig leaf iced tea. We will ask guests to bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share, and throw in a couple bucks towards the pizza.

Hopefully we can have a few focused group discussions on topics like winter protection of our fig plants. Maybe you would like to volunteer to speak briefly on a topic?

I would like to try this year to hold an 'exchange' where we would all bring an extra fig plant or so, then draw numbers to select winners. And of course if people want to arrange trades with other guests ahead of time, that would be fine as well. If you cannot bring a plant, there are some people coming who are likely be able to help with extras

Richie - it is about a 5 hr drive from Philly.  If you are talking about Burgettstown, it is on the other side of Pittsburgh from my place, probably about 70-80 minute drive if not in rush hour.

Hey Ed it sounds like it is going to be a good time , how many people do you have attending so far?? 

Right now there are 17 who have committed and another 7-8 who said "maybe" due to work or other factors.  Not to late to join in!

I wish someone would do this in FLORIDA!

Just one week until the 2nd Western Pennsylvania Fig Gathering...please let me know if you are planning to attend!  We now have 16 confirmed attendees, and another 10 'maybes' who I am waiting to hear from.
