30ft + tall heirloom Celeste

This is an heirloom Celeste fig tree that is over 30 foot tall and about 40 years old.  Thriving in Eastern NC, this tree is my great Aunt's.  I have more pictures that I wanted to share but I am getting tired of resizing them all.  It is really annoying.  This tree NEVER dies to the ground and to my knowledge never has.  It produces small and medium sized fruit.  VERY SWEET!  Definitely a keeper. rsz_screen_shot_2016-08-12_at_25102_pm.png

That's the image of a fig tree that I grew up with in Louisiana. Most 20 to 30 ft dome shaped and you could pick two buckets of figs from them every other day.

Beautiful!

That's a really nice tree.  I guess it has been lucky with the hurricanes.

That is a beautiful Celeste, and definatly a great fig.. I see some large Celeste trees in the city of Richmond, VA that have not died back either. They are in a micro climate that gives some protection to them, but I'm not sure they would do as well on the outskirts of the city. The problem I see with this size tree, is the figs aren't easily picked, and bees and beetles become a problem.

How magnificent and beautiful. That's exactly what I bought a couple weeks ago. Thanks!!!

Lovely tree, I may yet add it to my collection!

I would never allow my tree to get this large, my great Aunt can no longer keep it cut back so it got huge.

Celeste is definitely worth having in the collection.  If anyone is interested in this particular tree I can get lots of cuttings.

I would be interested, send me a pm?

That's a beautiful tree, especially that far north.  We've got a few of those around town.  Maybe half a dozen I can think of.  They're all gorgeous, and every one of them survived the big kills of 2012/2013 (I think those were the years).  A couple specimens are truly spectacular.

It is a beautiful tree.

Beautiful tree.....you must be busy making jam with all the figs it must produce!

That's a beauty! Can't wait to see more.

I have a 4 year old Celeste that is dropping figs...last year it gave me some nice figs in early October. Is Celeste a late season variety? Some say it ripens in June. I am in solid zone 8b central TX and my tree is in the ground. What's the deal with my Celeste? Late ripening, dropping figs all summer?

Figgrower, I wish I could tell you why your tree is dropping figs.  To my knowledge this tree has never had a problem with dropping figs.  In NC this tree usually produces in June and July.  It is still producing really heavy now.  If I were you I would try a heavy mulching of decomposed material like straw, wood chips or leaves.  That may not help but it could at least give a slow releasing dose of fertilizer and hold moisture in the ground.  There are many types of Celeste and that is an area where I am not expert.  The tree in the picture at the top is 40 years old ( at least).

I am interested in a Celeste that does not drop figs...all my figs are middle to late season fruiting, would be nice to have July figs.

I am happy to reimburse postage, or trade if that's what you want....please let me know.

Thanks.

pm sent. did you get my message?

Funny you say that my Celeste does the exact same thing, I got rid of it this year, always dropped them!

A beautiful fig tree!

Tad

I would LOVE to have a couple of cuttings if possible.

Beautiful tree!!
Use this website to upload your pictures. http://postimage.io
You don't need to resize anything here.
Use the link that says hotlink for forums. Just copy and paste on the thread.

I am in Eastern NC and see this variety a lot, or what appears to be this variety.  It does well in this climate, no splitting, small fruit, very sweet, mild flavor, and grows like a weed.

Well, still interested in A trade. Not the right time of year for cuttings, but can trade a small negronne, medium fico Santo (open eye), white Marseille, a lemon fig, or a local pomegranate for a heritage type Celeleste that does not drop figs....
