Matty I was just thinking about this too! James you have already spoiled us with seeing pics of our future baby figs in process of growing, so naturally we want MORE! Lol! Whenever u have the time that is.. We dont want to be demanding AND spoiled now right? Lol ;)

LOL, it hasn't even been a month.  The poor guy has to up pot a thousand cuttings.  Give him a break!  :)

You guys were reading my mind, or maybe I was reading yours, I just sat down to share some pics from a couple of days ago :)

Things are going really well so far.  I had an initial setback in that I couldn't directly root dormant cuttings out in my greenhouses (too wet and too cool).  If a cutting was already off and running (roots and leaves), then it kept growing fine; but if a cutting was totally dormant, it just continued to stay that way.  So I switched strategies and went back to my usual humidity bin method...and just got a lot more bins :)  In total, I've currently got around 900 cuttings hatching in humidity bins and about 150 in cloners.  Last week I moved the first 150 or so out of the bins and out to the greenhouses, since they had strong roots and leaves.  Today I'm planning to move the next batch, probably another 100-150.

The cuttings have been popping like popcorn, it's been fun to watch.  I'm very fortunate--the project is a lot of work, but it's so rewarding it doesn't feel that way.

I'll post some pics in a few minutes.

I currently have 25 bins and 3 cloners in use.  When individual plants are ready, I pluck them from their bins and consolidate them to be carried out to the greenhouses.  Here are 4 bins of consolidated plants that are on their way out:

Wow, talk about go big or go home.

Looks like you got the process down.  I know your staying very busy.

Way to go!

Man, I wish I could get my cuttings to root like that. Don is right, you got it down pat.

But James started it by spoiling us!!! Lol! J/k ;)

Wowee!!!!! Talk about getting right back to us! James you are amazing! The cuttings are no longer cuttings, and are officially baby fig trees! What an awesome job you are doing with them, I'm all smiles here getting to see this whole gigantic project unfold, and you are managing it "Like a Boss" (as my kiddies would say lol)! I actually think I saw one of my trees.. Hehe! Keep up the awesome work! I'm also very happy to hear that you are enjoying this enormous task, and that it doesn't often feel like the hard work it truly is because of that. It's an awesome thing when you truly love what you do for a living.. :)

Thank you for the update James (and for keeping us good & spoiled too lol)! Just think of all the smiles you will be delivering come spring/summer time frame.. All of them a direct result of all the hard work you are doing right now! Now that's something really special if you ask me ;)

Fantastic work, James.

You do having it going on.  I am still trying to grow my 1st tree fom cutting, I am paying close attention to all aspects of your process for success,  Thanks for all you do, it is a labor of love!

James I must admit I had my doubts but you proved me wrong. Outstanding job. I'm glad it's working out. You are revolutionizing the way we can acquire some hard to get varieties. Keep up the great work.

I cant wait till it's shipping time, your going to be super busy then! !!

looking great! What's the earliest you can ship these trees out? I'm not being impatient, I'm more concerned about the heat here in AZ if you were to ship my order in June. May maybe even too hot.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone :)

It'll be a lot of work, that's for sure!  I should put family members to work and have them earn all the figs they'll eat this year :)

The estimated earliest ship date for almost all orders is July 1st.  A very small number of people will get their orders around April (folks who had very small/simple orders containing only my outdoor varieties that went dormant in November).  But it isn't possible for me to fill the vast majority of other orders until approximately July 1st, because many of the trees from many of the varieties just won't be ready until then.

Some folks in AZ and elsewhere have requested that I delay shipping their plants until after the heat breaks in the fall, which I'm happy to do.  If you want me to do that for you, just pm me and let me know (include your paypal name so I can find your order, since it's probably different from your f4f name).

PMing you right now, thanks!

James, you are the "the Man".... I've had complete faith in you at the very start of this project! For sure, it looks like you know what you are doing! Thanks, for the hard work so far! : )

Here are some pics of the next wave of rooted cuttings that were just moved out a couple of days ago.  The bananas and citrus have kindly volunteered to provide some shade to help with the transition :)

I never tire of seeing cuttings leaf out and take root, especially the stingy ones like Figo Preto/Black Madeira/I-258.  Here's a little group of 5 Figo Pretos just getting started:

You are doing such a fantastic job rooting cuttings. You make it look so easy but I know better. Thanks for working so hard on this project.

Thanks Frank and MStanleyross!

Wow look at those babies go.  I have a small incubator box on my sofa table.  It is the highlight of the day to see how many new leaves.  Is that a fig addiction, you think?  Looking forward to many more.

or maybe us AZ folk should get together and drive a van home with all the figlest in July.  Road trip!
