mine did that too Richie, then shriveled up and fell off before truly ripening.  I hope you have better luck.  "Unk Home Depot" from him also did the same, and I think it is the same fig.  Keep us posted.

Will do. I water mine everyday its i ground and seems to keep it happy.

You need to photo shop it next time so it looks the same though. Good luck.

I don't think I can afford to replace another monitor trying to replicate the colors he gave that fig!!

Too bad, Richie.  You're probably right.
And LOL, Calvin.  ;)

Does malta need the, wasp. Thought its,a common fig.

Malta Black, does not need wasp,---but Malta purple red might need, till proven ,otherwise.

Ok never heard of the purple red malta. Will research it to find a puc

i bought mine from aaron in person last last year. it was thinner than a pencil when i got it in a small 10 oz clear plastic cup, and it blew the top off my pots so far and now in 24 gallon with multiple small figs.

This is Sultani fig on the mother tree. Every year the intensity of colors might vary due to climatic seasonal differences. In general the color changes of the fruit during the ripening process is constant.
Enjoy

Change in color it has. Its stayed green with a star like pattern from eye for a while. Now it has many colors or stripes but my camera only take good pics at night. Its in a very sunny spot. I will take some new pics tonight.

Richie - did this ever bear fruit for you or did they all eventually drop?

Mine dropped all for the second year.  I believe it is a Smyrna

Malta Purple Red does not need the wasp.  It is not a Smyrna type.  It is a common fig.  However, it does take a few years before the darn tree realizes not to drop its figs.  It behaves just like Pastiliere.

First year in ground so i am not judging it just yet
It really grew alot and dropped figs but its too cool of a tree to give up on it. Beautiful leaves. Figs have three red stripes going from eye to outward to the sides. Big giant three lobed leaves.

Yea the little figs were cute - kind of yellow with red stripes.  But none ever swelled at all.  Second year....sure Pastilliere is known for dropping for several years so there is no proof it is Smyrna.  But the CA growers have not done us a favor and tested it by blocking the ostiole to keep out their wasps.

If they are getting figs on 2 or 3 year old trees WITH the wasp, I think it needs the wasp.

My Sultani dropped it's fruit for me this year as well.

It just may be a dropper. Maybe next year. Lol

Sultani or Sultane?

I believe they are not the same!

Sultane is a common fig. Definitely different than Sultani.

Sultane is a French fig
Sultani is the name of an Egyptian variety and also this unknown procured at the home of an Iranian immigrant, a fig variety brought with him from Iran and not the same as the Egyptian variety.
