Another set of great photos.  Thanks for sharing.

Frankallen,
That is luscious and so mouth-watering!!! You are right; everyone should have such a tree..., unfortunately, not enough 70ºF days here in zone 4b.

Thanks for a beautiful post.

Frank --

I started some cuttings of JH Adriatic last year, then harvested a couple of figs that were so good that I decided to grow more.  At this point I think I have five trees at various stages of (im)maturity.  This year I have been totally impressed by both the growth and the productivity of the variety.  Even 1 1/2 to 2 year old trees are loaded with fruit.  None of the figs has ripened yet, but it looks like they will start soon.

You are also a big fan of Stella, which I have never tried.  Superficially, JHA and Stella seem similar, but for me that's based only on pictures.   How do the two varieties compare both on growth characteristics and fruit quality?  Thx.

.... yes, it's an excellent variant to have ... apart from high quality taste, it's reliable & productive.

Frank those pictures are great!

Beautiful pictures my friend. I totally agree on the AJH. I love this fig, its a must have

Dear Frankallen, what an artistic and creative presentation, I bet you could do great window displays in a retail place.

I too would love to hear your comment about Stella relative to Adriatic JH , and also Strawberry Verte.  I am trying to select figs that are green, split resistant and taste great.  Any comments about splitting?  I am guessing your trees get plenty of summer rain down there in Alabama.  It rains a lot here too in the summer fig ripening season, so splitting is a concern to me.  BTW, anyone know what the JH in the name strands for?

thanks for posting, great photo shot.

Vic

Looks so good.

I live in la. and everyone of mine split this year.I dont know
if it was because the tree was young or what.

Another great photo

Beautiful looking fig my friend, great picture as always, enjoy them.

Frankallen, thanks for posting the gorgeous photos!

Vic, you asked a great question. I didn't know what the "JH" stood for either. A search led to this thread about how Adriatic JH was grown by Joe in Austin, TX who shared it with other fig fans because of its exceptional flavor. https://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=5954967 Another thread says is a healthy version of the UCD Adriatic which has FMV, so that Adriatic JH ripens properly more quickly in the north east. https://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/difference-bt-adriatic-jh-and-adriatic-5880337?highlight=adriatic+jh&pid=1273851607

Because we grow peaches & pomegranates as well as figs, it's impossible to eliminate fruit souring beetles. Does Adriatic JH have an open or closed eye? If you are growing Adriatic JH in a hot, dry Zone 9 area, how well does it take 108-112˚ heat in June and July?

Hey Vic, Stella and Adriatic JH are completely different Figs. It's funny, but you picked out my Favorite Top three  yellow Figs Stella,Adriatic JH, and Strawberry Verte . They all are easy to grow and has a lot of Fruit. You can't go wrong with these three "Yellow" Fig Trees! If you look at my posting history, I have Photos of all three Figs. BTW these three Figs are not bad about splitting.

The first year or two I had some splits, that was about 15 years ago. Can't remember that last time JH split

I acquired UCD Adriatic about the same time I got JH. UCD spent the first year a little yellow and  riddled with FMV. The first year it hardly grew. 3-4 years later it turned out to be a nice plant. I eventually got rid of it cause JH is simply a better fig.

Thanks KK,I'm gonna give it a couple more years.

If I remember correctly, Joe said he tried to identify the fig, Adriatic was the closest match. I lost the pic of his tree years ago but he did tell us he got 50 gallons of figs a year.

I bought a JH and the darn thing keeps growing weeping branches, very strange.

Very good looking green (ok yellow tinted) fig. Mine is now in it's second year, no figs yet. Had 2 gave one to a friend, inground and unprotected it died back, but is now looking good again...have to help him winter protect this year, his health is not too good.

Mine is in a pot...this year it put on a fair amount of growth. Maybe inground in the spring?

Drew --

My JHA's have shown a tendency to weep, too.  The branches tend to come out perpendicular to the trunk, so any weight can pull them downward.  But I find the form attractive.

If my memory is right, the very large JHA that Kerry had in a NH greenhouse also had long, wavy branches.

I believe this is the picture you are referring to. I think this is Joe's original mother tree.

Nice to see the mother tree, thank you Cliff.

This thread gives the whole story, Joeseph Hood Himself eventually chimes in, great for a re-read...
