A lot of people put emphasis on popular/exotic cultivars, which is great because it highlights some of the better fig varieties; however, I am most interested in the figs our members love regardless of pedigree.

elin I think you nailed it! Send me your address and I'll send you a tree. I can't be 100% sure so I guess I'll name this U. Natalina BI (after the person who's house it came from.) As the story goes, it came from Italy to Staten Island NY 75 years ago then Cuttings were planted in Perth Amboy, NJ 50 years ago, and I took air layers in North Brunswick, NJ where it has been for 25 years. I'd say it's a survivor!

The leaf on the first post looks quite different from all the others on here. I am a little unclear, but I think that you are saying that the "my tree" in post 7 is the Canadian Natalina. If the leaves from "my tree" in the beginning of post 7 are from a different tree than post 1, then I would say that unknown Italian in post 1 is not Natalina . If the leaves from "my tree" in post 7 come from the same tree as post 1, then it still appears that it could be a different cultivar from the "the Italian on was in a document posted by a member - Fico".the Italian on was in a document posted by a member - Fico" appear quite different. The general shape is the same, however; the "my tree" in post 7 seems to consistently throw out 2 small kicker lobes at the base of the leaf. From what the pics show, the "Italian" has leaves that are rounded in at the base with no indication that the kicker lobes exist which suggests that it consistently produces 5 lobed leaves. Furthermore the "my tree" in post 7 presents all visible leaves that are not as smooth or uniform around the edges as the "Italian". To be sure, this is not dispositive and the differences may not indicate a different cultivar, but instead a merely a different environment/soil in which they were grown. Perhaps it is worth mentioning that I have seen other "Natalinas" with the little kickers at the base but am unsure if they were considered Italian or Canadian. if the leaf shown in post 1 is from a different tree than the one shown in 7, I would feel confident that the tree in post 1 is not Natalina.
