Picked some nice sized Atreano,90 grams this morning. Dark fig is an unknown Italian variety that was one of my Pops .Both trees are very cold hardy. Taste was excellent on both. Having trouble keeping the bees and hornets away from the dark fig especially. I have been forced to pick some fruit a bit early once they start browsing.               Angelo Zone 7a NY

Both of your figs look delicious!  I guess bird netting can't stop the bees!  Bummer!

I use row covers( 5'x50') - got them from amazon . Its a fabric that covers planting rows, bushes etc. to keep out insects ,also frost protection , allows light and rain in. You can cut it to size. It will trap in heat and moisture , so just be aware of that.
They are reusable .
I have potted figs so I used tall plant stakes 3-4 in a pot , draped the row cover over stakes and enclosed tree , secured openings with tiny clamps I found in Home depot - like clothes pins ! U pins can pin fabric into pots if needed. Seems to be working , not only for bees , but for birds too!
Funny thing is , they look like ghost trees!

Your figs look great !

I don't mind sharing some fruit , but the hornets are very aggressive. Could not locate any nests, must be in a neighbors yard. Suzi, yes both varieties are producing nice tasting fruit, each with their own unique characteristics.   Angelo

Luke, I took a piece of freshly baked bread and ate it along with a dozen figs. It was pure enjoyment.   Angelo
