In My area, There are 2 type of barrels, Reusable lib barrels cost more like $15/each,  non-reusable lib bareels are $5/each for 55G and 30G.
Anyone have both, Are they same durable?

how well do they hold up to the Sun?

Another place to check is a local U-Brew. I get 60 gallon white barrels with caps free of charge. They contained malt for brewing.

Last spring I have been lucky to find 22 barrels of 45-55 gal for $8 cd from the same seller in my area(Quebec,Canada) I cut off the tops and I will be ready use them next season...I was looking for this deal since 2 years! Sometimes patience pay...

Been using the 55 gallon drums (either cut in half or other sizes), for several years. They last about 5 years. Very good choice for large fig trees.

nice

I think they're great.
I've used those for my berry bushes that are outside all year long for past 5 years and I see no change or deterioration even with acidic soil and acid fertilizer use.
Depending on how big tree is, they can skid easy if I need to move them ( big ones I jack up and place a "moving men disk") with a little push.
