Beginning Fig Collection

  • WL

Just wanted to show a group picture of some of the cuttings I have rooted and some of the plants I have obtained.  This has been fun and I may have gotten a little carried away. Provided below are the figs that I am growing. The ones in bold are rooted plants I actually purchased from F4F and or ourfig members. I appreciate all the information I have received, I constantly read the postings and I also understand that I am just starting and I have a lot to learn. Thanks everyone. Sorry the pictures are not clearer.

That's a nice collection of fig plants you have there. It easy to get carried away.

Tony,

Thanks.

Welcome, looks like we got another one with us in the looney bin.

Dave if thats you just starting out I hate to see your collection a year from now LOL keep up the good work!

Tinyfish, brandon87 and Dave.. Thanks for the comments. I am trying to keep myself in check ..it can be difficult..LOL

How does one first realize they are TOTALLY hooked?
I knew I was an incurable fig addict when I started checking the F4F forum every morning BEFORE looking at my Yahoo E-mails!
Now I'm thinking about joining "Figs Anonymous." hehehe. Only joking, fellow figsters...I'd NEVER do THAT!!

Hahaha :)
That really made me smile, Dave!
Nice collection !!  :) I agree with what CT Dave said above if that is just starting out, I would LOVE to see your collection in a year! It is nice to see that you seem to have things under control for yourself, it is easy to get carried away. Doing what you love with deep attention is what is important though, no matter how deep or shallow you dive in. :)

Thos are some nice looking plants, they seem really happy. It seems that you are treating them well.

Wow, what a start! I myself am jus beginning to grow figs again after losing mine in a living transition. My collection is MUCH smaller though. I am starting out this time with 9 plants! I have some pretty common varieties for starters, though I got all mine as tissue cultures. I hope to see them shoot for the sky as soon as they get established into their new homes.
I am growing....

Black Mission

White Merscielles
Desert King
Beer's Black
Violet de Bordeaux
Green Ischia

and If so blessed, a Ronde de Bordeaux Airlayer in the fall from a friend that I met here on the forum.

Dave, your plants are looking so healthy! I would love to grow Panache, If it grows a bunch and you decide to air layer a branch please let me know!

Much love Dave,
:)

I would also like to take this time to say hello to everyone else who is here. I look forward to talking with you all and learning what I can about everything. I am relatively new to growing figs so I have a lot to learn there. I have many questions, but before bombarding the forums with my questions I am meticulously searching previous threads to not be redundant. lol
I am new to figs, but not new to gardening and growing so maybe I will be able to help out here myself.

Hello, all! I am happy to be here.

Many blessings,
~William

Charles, does the addiction extend to looking at the plants twice a day to see if they have grown from the last time you looked at them.. You were generous with the cuttings you sent me. The OP is growing well.

William, I am new with figs. I hope I can continue to get them to grow. I have lost a lot of cuttings. I have read that some folks on the forum have a 100% success rate which is awesome. My rooting success rate  this winter which was my first was about 50%. The panache has not shown a lot of growth and is struggling in comparison to some others. It is small currently. Someone suggested I get a HC and it has taken off. I have suckers (hopefully with roots attached)I will remove at some point.
