Best figs at your location

Can someone clue me in on what will grow in Wilmington, NC 28409?

Everything

Really? I mean really? Because you're playing with my emotions by saying that.

I dream of figs sometimes. I grew up with retired Italian neighbors so I've been spoiled.
Then I moved away and had nothing, and the obsession grew. Some people dream of
a corvette or a boat. I dream of a field full of fig trees.

What are the varieties I should aim for?

They were dark red with a red inside and were full of almost honey like nectar. Dreamlike.

Thanks.

Go back, find that fig and take a cutting. How far away would it be?

Dark red figs, red inside, with a honey flavor, that will grow in North Carolina? I thought of Lebanese Red and Red Israel/Palestine for red figs with a mild honey flavor but am not sure about growing them in NC. The insides were red here. I hope to get crops from both this year.

We discussed Red Israel/Palestine, maybe Kurtmani, here:

As for your dream:

Hey 6min16min lets chat sometime.  Im in town and they are correct that almost everything will grow here.  Hit me up, I got an email saying I should come here and look for you since you were local.  I also think you may have messaged me tonight on CL lol.

Anyhow im headed to bed but I will respond tomorrow.

Chicago Hardy is your answer my friend
Dark ,red center and if you allow it to ripen properly ,"unbeatable flavor"!
It will also tolerate the NC winters and even if it dies back to the ground it will come back and most likely produce the same year!
You can play around with other "exotic " varieties if you wish to and you should but if your ultimate goal is to enjoy some amazing figs HC is your best bet imo!
Good luck with whatever you decide .

Newbie here...The wealth of info here can be daunting and confusing...Dennis setup a data base back in 10/2015 for us, which is very helpful.  I have updated it since.  Dennis lumped the regions  in some cases, which appears to be too broad (like zone 7,8, and 9 in S.E.).  Here I tried to separate them out for clarity.  This thread appears to be the best fig trees we have both in terms of productivity(related to survival in specific zone) and taste. However, taste can be very personal, so I also included another file that I modified from a file provided by another member, Figgysid1.  This taste comparison was compiled by someone with the Chefs' comments.  Hope these two files can be useful for all.

P.S.  The in ground fig file has been reformatted so that the last few columns can be fitted into the same page.

Wow, those pdf's are amazing. Thanks!

Since I'm a newbie, I might mess up what I post next - please be kind :)

I've been lurking for a couple of years and taking some notes. Here are some names that have caught my eye from others on the forum which I did not see listed (I assume that some may already be listed under another name but I might not realize it). Could we add them and maybe those who have them might contribute their experiences?
Yellow Long Neck
Kashi Yellow Giant
Violette de Sollies
Rouge de Bourdeaux
Pellegrino
Unk. Teramo
Improved Celeste
Stella
Danny's Delight - on one list but not the other
Rossa di Trianni
Bethel Black
Filiacciano Bianco
Colonel Littman's Black Cross
Lebanese Black
Sodus
Bisirri #3
White Triana
Olympian
White Marseilles

Thanks again for everyone's contributions! I've purchased my little guys this year based on everything I have read on this forum.
