To all who have purchased BB10 cuttings from me on my eBay listings.........both my Children's International kids and I thank you. I never studied figs for a monetary gain and I did share lots of good fig related information over the years. A good bit of that information was deleted by me on exiting this forum. But y'all got to admit, I did surface many new fig varieties for the Fig community.

I am content in knowing that I found a few good figs growing  here in South Louisiana and in knowing that the Smith fig will never fade away into extinction. I made it popular through my many writings...and never once sold Smith cuttings. It is a very good Louisiana heirloom fig ........originating from Croatia as told to me by the grandson of the immigrant who brought it to Louisiana years ago. The Becnel family use to propagate it but stopped because their customers did not want it due to its name.

With that said, I am so disgusted with many in the fig community that I just don't give a damn about sharing fig information with anyone anymore. I don't care what the fig community wants to call this BB10 fig and vow NEVER to discuss figs with ANYONE ever again. Not in any format whatsoever. I will get my pleasure in EATING figs, raising chickens, and blogging about Climate change....not in discussing figs or collecting them. Yeah, I'm crazy like that......... but, at least I've accomplished what I set out to do....find good figs for growing here in the hot and humid South!!

If any of you buyers missed the provance of this BB10 fig as was documented on my fig blog, I post the following information just for you:

BB10 is a Persian fig which originated in the cold/rainy mountainous area of northern Iran. It was locked away from the West for centuries due to political/religious reasons. At least that is what the Iranian immigrant told me who planted the mother BB10 tree in Baton Rouge.  The Iranian immigrant came over around the time the Shaw of Iran was overthrown. He can never go back for political reasons.

Part of my research involves studying Persian figs. IMO, Persians figs just taste better than European /Mediterranean figs which is something pointed out to me by Iranians. It is why I have searched for and obtained others in my collection.  I believe they taste better because it is a genetic evolution thing. Persian figs evolved on a separate path than the European figs.

Thank god I never discussed another delicious Persian fig that I call GG-10 (Golden Goddess 10)!! I give them those type names so I can keep track of them. Shame on me for not clearing names with the Fig Forum Naming Committee........lmao

So long Folks........enjoy your figs no matter the name or it's provonace. The best fig is the one that makes you happy!! ......no matter what any fig forum member tries to tell you...including me!

Dan.....a crazy but very happy old man!!
Semper Fi-cus, as always, to all you fig nuts no matter what you may think of me. Goodbye.

Sent from my iPad

I guess that's all folks.  I'll be in Rafed's fig group on facebook minding my own affairs and making biochar devices.  Have fun with whatever.

Wow. You really are a sociopath... You live in a dream land buddy. I don't know too many people that can have such resentment in previous posts and then pretend to be nice and think everything is OK in the next. And I'm sure we'll see you again. You and you're GG10, ROFL. No one cares about your research that we'll never know anything about. Please do us all a favor and keep it to yourself and that blog that no one reads. What a joke of a human you are.

P.S. Being a "fig researcher" doesn't make you any better than the rest of us and just because you "found" some varieties doesn't make you a good thing for our community. You've filled our forums with trash and confusion. Making idiots believe you and your incessant lying. Thanks for finally releasing BB10 to people. It only took someone to find the fig for themselves for you to do the right thing... Oh and I know you won't respond because I think you and I both know what that'll do to your precious "fig researcher" know it all reputation.

Damn dan you had me till you lower cased god and upper cased Persian and yes I lower cased your name on purpose.!I have a job and your cuttings are on their way so f**k off and as far as chickens are concerned Black Copper Marans are the ones to get!! they are still keeping my belly full with the best tasting eggs you will ever eat.

This guy is a Joke, Golden Goddess LOL. I thought #165  was his last post. And one good member Brian left the forum. Sorry Charlie not shooting the messenger.

God have mercy on my soul another drama queen has left the building!?!?

Wow...what a week!

And that's why everyone basically hated him...

Every body welcome the JV squad  lives in zone 3b /4a and has not got Florea in his collection...Hmmm! I guess St. Julien Genoevois unk will be worth $100.00. Time to go to Scrhool young buck!I bought 2 of Dans BB-10s.From his pictures I will get 8 cuttings, they looked 6 nodes = 16. In the humid south east they will sell like hot cakes that's why I bought 2.Cold hardy, No FMV,Split resistant, VDB on steroids taste wise, easy to root, are you stupid?the south east is salivating for this fig!

Disagree with you there Grant,  Many folks feel as Devlsgro does, and not just the JV squad. Unless folks are  trying make quick turnaround on investment as you appear to. I don't have problem with that or  any other reason someone decides to spend their money, but to many folks this is a hobby for the fun of figs, many folks decide to sell as well, and that's fine, but probably not really smart to be lacing your disagreements with insults and making friends as fast as you seem to be if you plan on being a seller. As far as Cajunb being a drama queen as I assume that's who you are referring to nothing could be further from the truth. I don't recall ever communicating with Brian directly, but he always appears very easy going generous and showing a true passion for figs and sharing in his knowledge and respected by many. I believe he is probably as knowledgeable as Dan on the LSU figs but without all the arrogance.  Maybe a mistake was made I don't know we have all made mistakes. I am probably making one here even contributing to this thread.

Best fig to all

Devlsgro- you can read about Dan's "dwarfing technique" here http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/1873529/dwarf-potted-fig?n=11

For full context, Dan linked to an eBay listing as proof of his technique, the pictures in the listing have expired, but from my memory it was nothing more than a severely stunted fig tree in a small bonsai pot so congested with roots that drainage suffered and there was a line on the trunk level with the rim of the pot. And also, Dan had just been banned from gardenweb and came back anonymously under the name King.fig. He later ranted about the event on his blog, (I think he was soon banned again) but never provided any supporting evidence for his claim. I made the mistake of responding to that and other baseless comments, he deleted my comments from his blog and posted outright lies about what I had written. Do not tap on the glass!

"Do not tap on the glass" Ha ha. I like that!

Ok Grant, I cross posted on using BB-10 DA and BB-10 BR (thanks for that suggestion Bob) over on OurFigs.  We'll see how civilized people will be.  I don't expect an issue....it's just a suggestion to try and help keep confusion down.  We shall see.

So, how many "chill hours" does Dan need before posting again?

I have both and personally if they are the same exact fig then don't expect me to call them anything but BB10....period. And if they are the exact same fig, we shouldn't expect any of the buyers to give them different names. Remember, the reason there are two different names for Genovese Nero? Because they are not the same fig, they are DIFFERENT with DIFFERENT names. Besides, Dan pretty much said, in his goodbyes, that they are the same fig.

Wayne, I totally agree with you....as soon as we know.  Are yours too young to provide a definitive prognosis at this point?

I don't sell so I will keep them separate, and will not trade or gift until I know for sure, but if you can really understand what Dan is saying, they are the same. Go back and reread his/Charlie's posts. The only members that question the difference are the members that are having issues with Brian who has treated everyone great, as forum members and buyers from the forum and eBay. Again, I trust Dan when he said they are the same.

One from a CajunB source.

[o1XVjHn]

The only reason I suggested 2 similar names is that I didn't think anyone had both that were mature to compare.  If people have one from Brian and 1 from Dan and they're the same I have no problem with keeping the name the same.  I'm not trying to tell people what to do, I just think we should keep the sources separate since it seemed there was some confusion.

Last time, Dan says they are the same, Brian says they are the same and now Wills says they are the same,......why are we trying to make them different??? Where is the confusion?

Here lies the confusion.

Brian says in one communication he got cuttings from Dan and then in another, from a certain friend who bought a lot the mother tree was on.

Dan says that tree on that lot isn't the mother tree and if they are all the same then it has to be from the figs stolen from his yard since he never shared or sold any to Brian or anyone ever.

They may all be the same but they all aren't right to have, if they are.  If they aren't all the same then the Unk Brian got from lot owned by Rock are already documented on Dan's blog nobody can see unless Dan lets them read it.

Simple.

Although at this point it may very well be beating a dead horse, comparisons of the BB10 cultivar to Sultane are NOT incompatible with the parting remarks made by someone who has left the forum, since the Sultane, according to some researchers who point to "United States Department of Agriculture’s accession records, which account for every plant material legally entered into the United States, mention Sultan as coming into the US circa 1930 as a gift to the United States from the Agricultural Commissioner of Algeria." Sultane is also an extremely popular fig in France with long historical roots. France's history in Algeria spans 5 centuries so that connection is also very strong. Lastly, the Sultani fig which is considered the same as Sultane by many, also has roots in Persia or what is present day Iran. IMHO, the Persian connection that was suggested in parting by HWNSNBS as an attempt to further sow confusion in the forum about the fig, if true, only serves to support and reinforce the Sultane as BB10 hypothesis.

"Climate Change" blogging...pass these on to dan for his blog ;)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/environment/globalwarming/11395516/The-fiddling-with-temperature-data-is-the-biggest-science-scandal-ever.html

Persia and Turkey have always had amazing fruit, even Israel imports Iranian pistachios via 3rd parties.

I have a russian pomegranite, the Marianna pomegranite, and a Syrian pomigranite aka "Austin" (rooted or cuttings) for trade. My fig collection is probly either too young or to common for most, but you can ask..:)

Looking for the Persian fig Dan calls BB10. :)

Thank you.

Charlie, if he let's no one see his blog then why blog?

I'm not sure but I think there's a select group he lets see his fig blog.  Don't know about his other blogs.

If there is anyone out there who has successfully rooted BB10 cuttings from Dan's recent auction I'd be interested in comparing notes. I also have BB10 from another source.

I'd rather start out doing this by PM. So please contact me.
