Thanks.  I'm guessing that my season starts at least a week after and ends a week before yours, more or less.  So I may be best off focusing on pots.  Two follow-up questions:  Did you do anything to hastened ripening, such as pinching?  And how do you manage 55g SIPs -- a fork lift? :)

There are some fig hunters out there trying to find the BM or Preto look alike, just get a KK Black Madeira or my Pretos from Don, you know they are successful. Can't go wrong and with the look alikes, you never know what to expect in your growing region. If the unknowns are a good price then go for it, but don't get in a bidding war with expensive unknowns until they are tested in your area.

Hardwood mulch will suck out the N as it degrades. Hardwood mulch or bark isn't a good soil additive.

Pine bark on the other hand is a different story. Aged pine bark is really good and comprises about 50% of most nursery mixes.

Hardwood mulch/bark and Pine bark are very different.

55 gallons overwintered in my garage. I move them outside on the last week of April with a handtruck and no pinching. Very easy to move as long as there's no water in the reservoir, holds about 10 gallons. Also I stop watering before the move to let soil dry.

I started doing something similar this year with a bunch of 10gs, 15gs, and 25gs.  I thought the 25gs might be my limit.  You've made me feel like a wimp.

Keith Do you root prune a couple of weeks after they go dormant or a couple of weeks before bud break?

couple of weeks before bud break

I've got 2 cuttings of BM from KK and they're doing really well.  All my cuttings that I've bought from him have always been top notch.

Thank you Keith! Keep it up.

Beautiful trunk!

That's a thing of beauty!

Wow, that BM looks awesome!

Wow... speechless!

The mother of very many delicious BMs, including mine. It's good to meet her! Makes me think of the giving tree book.

I get 50 pounds for $60 including delivery. In the spring my yard smells like the Jersey Shore :)

Hey KK I'm right near you, where do you get the pro mix bx?
Thanks

Closest place I've found is these guys

It's a little bit of a hike so I usually get a couple. The price is always different, few months ago it was $30.33 a bale, last week it was $27.50. They bring it out and put it in the car/truck for you. They also have a good price on large bags of perlite.

They no longer carry crab shell, the last bag I received was ground, they call it crab/lobster flour

Thanks Keith,

20" means 15 gallon or do u know in litres?. I just want to know so that I can keep them in the smallest pot possible, since I suffer from terrible lower back pain.
