Brogiotto Bianco

I just saw these pics on my phone from last year.
Very nice fig, one of my favourite green. It had a late start as I pruned the heck out of it last year, so ripened around mid October 2016. Still tasted really good and excellent flavour. Hoping to get a great crop this season.

Looks delicious Vinny.

Chatted with Adriano last week & he said it's KING of figs, excellent taste. I am
encouraged to trial it. He will help as mine died some 7or 8 years back.

Nice looking fruit. There must be more than one Brogiotto Bianco as I was unable to ripen mine so far.
I would've expected that the size should at least match the size of a Brogiotto Nero, which is larger than that.

Fig looks very nice.
Not as round as I expected could there be different strains?

Thanks Brian and Paul.
Sas,
The Brogiotto Nero that's being circulated in the US is not really true to type well atlest that's what I've been told . I got mine from a really good source from Italy who grow and sell these fruits for a living and had close links with Belloni. My Brogiotto Nero leaves matches the Bianco . I agree with you and I also expected it to be squated. Having said that , my tree produced these fruit for the first time and it's greenhouse ripened since it had a very late start. Yet I would say the flavour is really superior .

I agree, I am hoping for better things to happen this season .
Here is a pic I took later:

Here is a pic from the source , same tree grown in Italy under excellent growing conditions:

Looks very good, Vinny. Squaty or not!

Thanks for sharing.

I always thought that any Brogiotto fig fruit was more flattish/roundish with a short neck (rather than of a pear shape)?

Because it's always been compared with the Brogiotto Nero and the Brogiotto Nero in the US I've seen is not the real deal. If you see my last pics as reply it's more like what you would expect, especially from my friend who bought it for me from the same source. I think someone needs to grow this in a much favourable weather conditions to finalise . English weather is not really perfect for many varieties, it's a constant struggle . Anyway I'll just keep it for the taste and productivity.

Looks like a good one.

Do you have pics of the right and wrong Brogiotto Nero?

Hello,
My Brogiotto Nero didn't put out any Figs yet but I can tell you this . Check out this link.

This nursery is based in RIVA DEL GARDA (Trento) . I have been there twice just for buying Fig trees and made good acquaintance with the owners and a worker who is almost a buddy now. I'm planning to visit them again this year. This nursery is not your average nursery, they take pride to have a big collection of figs, peaches and grapes. Also they are very knowledgable and highly respected . And they don't ship overseas. So you see the effort, finance and time I had to invest just to get the real stuff. Below you can see their Bareroot field from where you pick the tree you want.

The pic on their website is the real Brogiotto Nero and that's the tree I have. There is another type of Brogiotto Nero that produce Breba aswell. I can't say about the US version simply because most of these trees are personal to many growers just as the Mt etna types...Also this will create an argument which I don't really want. I just simply wanted to share what I received from a really trusted source.
Thank you,

I consider these the same & they are pretty much the same thing in the US:
Brogiotto Nero
Bordissot Negra
Bourjassotte Noire

All of the Bordissote figs are squaty. Bordissot Grise, Noire, Blanca-Negra, Verda, Blanca Rimada, etc...

BUT

I had heard from Olga that the real Brogiotto Nero is not the one we have the US. I know she feels strongly on that.

Ross,
I believe it's squaty too. Hoping to see it's true colour this season .
Thanks,

This is my Brogiotto Nero from last year

Hey Vito,
Beautiful pics as always.
I'm starting to wonder about the US Brogiotto Nero and Ross's theory about Bourjasotte Noire . This is my Bourjasotte noire slightly under ripe.

Beautiful figs, Vito and Vinny. I hope my Brogiotto Nero and Bourjasotte Noire cuttings produce figs near to as nice as the ones displayed in the pics.

Tony,
They are great Figs. You'll love it. I just wish we had a long growing season.

I didn't realize there was a bianco and nero of this fig....Very nice!

Vito, nice looking Brogiotto Nero!  Does it produce brebas for you.

Bourjasotte Noire figs looks similar but the leaves look different shape.  Also Bourjasotte Noir is a unifera type so should never produce a breba.

Vinny ,
Brogiotto Bianco is looking great as you mentioned if it is in better climate it will be better.I would like to try in Turkey .Hope it will adapt in our climate .I tried Brogiotto Nero and it did well last year and growed fast .

Both Brogiotto Nero and Bianco look amazing thanks for sharing Vinny.

Is Brogiotto a family name I can't find a translation for it.

Isn't there two types of Brogiotto Nero Pino?.. one that produce Breba and the other just main .

Ercan ,
Thanks and I'll send a Bianco out for you no problem. I'm glad the Nero did well for you. Almost all Figs will do well in your climate plus the wasps with add extra vitamins nutritional benefits . We love your home made Fig seed coffee .
Ben,
I have asked a friend in Florence to give some details. Once I have it I'll post it here or PM you .
