Brown Plate

Just wanted to get the forum back on track with some actual pictures of figs and sharing information about different varieties.

This is a Hungarian variety named Brown Plate. Nice looking fig, great taste, vigorous (grew 6 feet this year), mid to late season, and apparently cold hardy like most Hungarian varieties. I can't say for sure in San Diego but it definitely drops leaves later than all other non Hungarian varieties. I will have cuttings as soon as all the leaves drop.

There are more pictures below in a follow up post

I got the Black plate from you last year, is Brown different? and if so I would like cuttings if possible.Do you have the Dry on tree Green?

Yes, Brown Plate is different from Black Plate, it is a brown fig.  I posted pictures of it previously if I remember correctly.  No Dry On The Tree Green, sorry.

How is Black Plate treating you?  Any figs yet?

Sounds great, we will be waiting, tell us a little more about it when you post the photos. Taste like what, size, compared to what? Thanks for trying to get the forum back on figs and their amazing way of getting us "fig dependent".

That looks very nice padsfan. I got a Hungarian unknown in trade this year, which are just starting to work out. I'm very excited that they have started to open lead buds.

Found a couple more pictures from this summer

Leaf shape-

Looks good! Let me know when you get cuttings I would like to buy some.

Thanks,

How many Hangarian varieties do you have?

Just saw this for some reason. I have 4 Hungarian varieties- Black Plate Brown Plate Kutfej Black and Dalmatie (sic?). All good growers and very cold hardy

I'm happy to see my varieties perform well in other countries. I can help with identification of the varieties or any question occurs.

That one is not Dalmatie but a medium sized, yellow skin, red pulp fig from Dalmatian part of Croatia brought here about 30 years ago.

Just posted some Brown Plate cuttings on eBay FYI

@padsfan  What do your black plate figs look like? Have you posted pics of those? Thanks...

Unfortunately I haven't had any Black Plate figs yet. I was really looking forward to that one as I prefer black figs but the birds got the only 3 on my tree this year. The tree didn't take off like the Brown Plate did

Thanks.... @padfan.... yeah, I love black and really dark figs with nice red berry interiors also....
